It's morning, and the Grimes mansion is buzzing. Ingrid and Marcus have just told their sons Lance and Roark, as well as Rosamond Tucker, that Joanna Harper has committed suicide. Ingrid shows Joanna's letter to everyone.
Roark (handing the letter back to Ingrid): I don't know what to say Mom. I'm not sorry she's dead though.
Lance: Me neither. She's caused this family a lot of pain.
Ingrid: I understand how you feel, but she truly needed help. And in her mind, she didn't think she needed it. She thought what she was doing was rational.
Rosamond: Committing suicide however, was the easy way out. She probably believed you would forgive her if you knew about her mother's mental illness, an illness she inherited. (The others nod in agreement).
Roark: How's Paul taking this?
Marcus: He's shaken, but okay. Thank God Kane has decided to stay. Paul will feel better knowing his father here. (To himself) Valerie will too. It's clear she's still in love with him.
Meanwhile, Valerie and her daughters are upstairs in Valerie's room.
Valerie: Are you girls okay? You're awfully quiet. Thinking about Joanna's suicide?
Zoe: I'm thinking about Dad.
Amaya: Me too. Mom, are you going to divorce him?
Valerie: I don't know yet, but I do know we can't live together anymore. Not when he's behaving so terribly.
Zoe: What about Kane?
Valerie: What about him?
Zoe: Are you guys getting back together?
Valerie: That's not happening anytime soon. His main concern is your brother. He doesn't want a romantic relationship right now. He's still too grief-stricken over his wife's death. (Pause) I'm going to be honest girls. I love him, but I'm going to have to resolve this situation with your father first. Hopefully sooner than later.
Deanna Thorpe is at Larry and Loretta Sherwood's house, tending to Larry, who has the flu. They're in Larry's room.
Larry: Thanks for spending the day with me. Mom wanted to stay home, but she couldn't.
Deanna: The pleasure is all mine. (Kisses him on his forehead). You're still warm.
Larry: I feel awful. But you were beginning to tell me about your mom and Paul's stepdad.
Deanna: He gives me the creeps big time. Especially now I know he actually wanted to hurt Paul, just because he didn't his wife to meet her son.
Larry: He sounds too possessive. Man, what is it with these people in this town? First Joanna and Quentin, and now this Talbot dude. Why would your mom be interested in a guy like that?
Deanna: Because she' s alone. Manwise that is. Lance is in love with Rosamond, and she won't accept it. Maybe she wants to make Lance jealous by seeing Drennen Talbot. I tell you Larry, it won't work. Lance has it bad for Rosamond. Mom says nothing's going on between them, but I don't know. I'm scared for her Larry. And I'm also scared for the baby too....
Back at the Grimes mansion, Rosamond is upstairs straightening Ingrid and Marcus' room when Lance enters.
Lance: Honey, I'm leaving for work.
Rosamond (walking over to him and putting her arms around him): Okay. You going to be alright?
Lance: Sure. (Kisses her) You know, I've been thinking. Why don't we go away together. I have some vacation time left. We could go to Dad's beachouse.
Rosamond: Oh Lance, I don't know. I can't just drop everything and take off. I haven't even spent any quality time with Cordelia, Everett, and Jadyn.
Lance: I'm sorry sweetie, I'm being selfish. It's just that it's been so crazy here lately, I thought it would be nice for us to relax.
Rosamond: You're always thinking of me, and I love you for it. (Kisses him back) Maybe after the holidays?
Lance: That's a nice idea. Well, I'd better go. I love you. (He kisses her again)
Rosamond: Bye baby. See you later. (He leaves)
Lance is walking down the hall when Valerie appears. She notices his sad look.
Valerie: Lance, what's wrong? It seems everyone around here is so depressed. I know Joanna's death is such a shock.
Lance: It's not that Valerie. I want to take Rosamond away for a while, and she doesn't feel like going.
Valerie: Where did you want to take her?
Lance: At Dad's beachouse up in Bethany Beach.
Valerie: Sounds wonderful.
Lance: It is. Listen, I really have to get going. Say hi to Zoe and Amaya for me. Bye Valerie.
Valerie: Goodbye Lance. (To herself) That's it! Marcus' beachouse sounds like the perfect place to convince Kane we should be together. But first, I have to end my marriage to Drennen.....
