Episode 54

Valerie Talbot has come to Breckenridge hospital to visit her estranged husband Drennen, who just days earlier, tried to kill Paul Harper and Kane Garrett, but was captured by Russell Gault. Upon seeing Valerie, Drennen screamed out an apology for his murder attempt.

Drennen: Valerie! Val, I'm so sorry, oh God I'm so sorry!

Valerie (to the security guard behind her): It's okay. You can wait outside. (He nods and leaves to watch the door).

Drennen: I'm so glad you're here Val.

Valerie: Why did you do this Drennen? Why???

Kane is in the living room of his condo trying to watch TV, but he can't concentrate. He can only think about the shooting. Then the doorbell rings, and he gets up to answer it. Zoe and Amaya are at the door.

Kane: Hi girls. Come in. (He shuts the door behind him). Take off your coats. How did you get all the way over here?

Amaya (getting out of her coat): Lance dropped us off on his way back to work.

Kane: Well, I'm glad you're here. Come and sit down. (The sisters just stand there). Girls, what's the matter? (Amaya runs to him and begins crying. Kane puts his arms around her. A few seconds later, Zoe goes to him).

Zoe: How can our dad do such a thing Kane?

Amaya: It's so sick!

Kane: Your father thought getting rid of Paul and I was the only way he could get you and your mom back.

Amaya: Getting rid of you and Paul? You mean----you mean Dad came to the TV station to kill you?

Kane: I'm afraid so Amaya.

Zoe: Dad won't ever get Mom and us back. He's going to jail.

Kane: It looks that way after he gets out of the hospital.

Zoe: I hate him!

Kane: If you hate your father, you'll be just like him, the way he hates your brother and I, and you don't want to be like that do you?

Amaya: I can't forgive him just yet Kane.

Zoe: Me either. We don't have to see him do we? I don't want to.

Kane: You can't be forced to see him if you don't want to. Come on girls, let's sit on the couch. Everything will be alright.

Zoe (resting against him): I'm so happy you're here for us and Mom.

Back to Drennen's hopsital room.

Drennen: I had to----to keep my family together.

Valerie: You honestly thought Paul was getting in the way? Drennen that's insane!

Drennen: You left me and took our daughters to be with him.

Valerie: Only because you were being unreasonable. We couldn't be around you anymore.

Drennen: Then you reunited with Kane, and that's all she wrote. I was out of the picture----the man you vowed to stay married to forever.

Valerie: Oh Drennen, can't you see what you've done to our family? All I wanted you to do was to support me in wanting to find Paul. I never expected him to want to find me too, and I never expected Kane to come back after all these years.

Drennen: But he did, and you went to him.

Valerie: I wouldn't have if you stood by me....but you didn't Drennen! You tried to stop me from seeing Paul, you tried to stop our daughters from seeing him too. You have controlled us for so many years, and I was blind to it, but not anymore. I feel a freedom I haven't felt in years and it's wonderful. You didn't want to share in my happiness. That's when I realized we didn't have a marriage anymore. I'm just sorry you didn't realize it too.

Drennen: I love you Valerie. Forever and always. I did what I thought was the only way to get you and the girls back with me. I was desperate. Desperate and stupid. I've lost everything, and I have no one to blame but myself.

You're right Drennen. You have to face the responsibility for what you've done. You have to understand Zoe and Amaya want nothing to do with you. They really care for Paul and Kane. You've hurt them badly, and you've hurt me.

Drennen: I know. (Pause) Will you visit me in jail?

Valerie: I can't answer that now. My priorities are my children. I have to be there for them.

Drennen: You want a divorce, I'll give you one Valerie. I'm going to prove my love to you right up until the end.

Valerie: Thank you Drennen. You don't know how much this means to me. (She gently kisses the top of his forehead). I'll start to get the papers drawn up. I pray you find peace Drennen. Goodbye. (She begins to leave)

Drennen: Goodbye Valerie. (Pause) Wait----Val?

Valerie (turning around): Yes?

Drennen: Tell the girls I love them, and I'm sorry. Will you do that?

Valerie: I will. (She leaves).

Drennen sinks back on the bed, sighs, and begins to cry again.

Next on come nightfall....
Drennen goes to jail....and Valerie gets her divorce papers.
Lance and Rosamond prepare to take a well-deserved romantic getaway.
Kane and Paul convince Zoe and Amaya to visit their father.
