It's a few weeks later after Valerie's visit with Drennen at the hospital. Drennen is now at the Breckenridge police station, in jail after making a full confession. His bond has been denied. Paul, Kane, and Valerie also gave their statements. Paul and Kane are sitting at a booth at the Sherwood Diner with Paul's wife Tess and her mom Loretta.
Tess: What's going to happen with Drennen now?
Paul: His father has contacted a lawyer to come here and represent him at his hearing.
Kane: From what I've heard, this lawyer is one of the best----and most expensive.
Tes: It won't do any good. Drennen's confessed, there are witnesses, and he bought the gun and bullets from Cal right here in town. Plus, Valerie saw him and confessed to her too.
Paul: We know that sweetie, but Drennen's still entitled to a fair trial. I'm pretty sure his lawyer will plead mental insanity or some kind of post traumatic stress.
Loretta: Which is ridiculous. It's cold, calculated, premeditated murder plain and simple.
Valerie and her daughters enter the diner. Paul sees them and waves them over.
Paul: Mom! Zoe! Amaya! (The women come up to the table).
Valerie: Hi everybody. I have some great news. I contacted Marcus' lawyer and my divorce papers are drawn up.
Tess: That's great, but isn't it a little quick?
Valerie: I said I wanted nothing from the marriage except the money that's mine. No alimony, no assets, nothing else. And since the girls aren't minors, there's no custody battle.
Loretta: Drennen owes you and the girls something.
Amaya: We don't want anything from him.
Zoe: As far as I'm concerned, he's no longer our father.
At the Grimes mansion, Rosamond is talking on the phone with her sister Cordelia.
Cordelia: I'm glad you and Lance are going to the beachouse. It's been really awful the past few weeks with what's happened at the TV station.
Rosamond: Lance thinks some time alone will be good for us, but I'm really concerned about Eliza. She was really shaken up after we discovered Drennen was the shooter.
Cordelia: Rosamond don't worry. Deanna and Suzanne will be here taking care of Eliza.
Rosamond: I know but----
Cordelia: You want to be everyone's big sister Rosie and take care of them and I love you for it, but you need to think about you for a change.
Rosamond: You're right. You're absolutley right! Listen, I have to finish packing. I'll call you from the beachouse. Bye Cordy. (Hangs up. Lance enters).
Lance: Almost finished baby? (He wraps his arms around her and kisses her).
Rosamond: Almost. Are you sure the rest of the family is okay with us leaving?
Lance: Yes, they think it's a good idea. Besides, I've been dying to be alone with you for a while. (Kisses her again) I love you.
Rosamond: I love you too. I just hope nothing else bad happens while we're away.
Back to the Sherwood Diner. Zoe and Amaya are bringing Kane and Paul two cups of coffee. Tess and Loretta are at the counter.
Zoe: Here you go guys.
Paul: Thanks. You know girls, I think you should see your father.
Amaya: No way! Not after what he did!
Kane: Drennen needs to know how you feel. It will give you guys closure.
Zoe: He'll just turn everything around to make it look like it's your fault. I don't want to listen to his whining.
Kane: But in the long run, you'll regret not talking with him, getting out all your feelings of anger.
Zoe: I don't know Kane. He's really messed things up for our family.
Paul: Will it help if I go with you?
Amaya: You'd do that for us?
Paul: Sure. What are big brothers for?
Amaya: Zoe? What do you think?
Zoe: Okay, we'll go. But I won't stay long. Thanks Paul. You're a great brother! (She throws her arms around him).
Kane: Now this is what family is all about....something Drennen should have realized.
Next on come nightfall....
Zoe and Amaya confront their father in jail.
Roark and Fawn come to the diner looking for work.
Cordelia registers for college----and has an unpleasant encounter with one of the students.
