And now, onto this week's episode...
Roark Grimes and his girlfriend Fawn Hollister are sitting at the counter inside the Sherwood Diner. Larry is behind the counter wiping it down. His girlfriend Deanna Thorpe is coming out of the ladies' room and joins her friends.
Suddenly, Brody Pearce stumbles into the diner, clutching his stomach and grimacing, blood running down the bottom of his shirt and blue jeans like a faucet trickling red water. Deanna screams, and everybody else has a look of horror on their faces. Roark and Larry rush to his side, and Larry helps him to the counter.
Larry: Jesus Christ Brody! What the hell happened?
Brody (very weak): My---my---fa--father. (He collapses on the floor).
Fawn: I'm calling 911. (She runs behind the counter to the phone).
Larry (shocked): Your dad did this to you?
Roark: The son of a bitch! I didn't think he'd go this far!
Brody (struggling to talk, wincing with each word): He stabbed me Larry. Because---because I wouldn't rob...(He passes out, weak from pain).
Fawn (going back over to the guys): The paramedics will be here very soon. (Fighting to keep her composure) Did he say anything? Did he say who did this to him?
Roark: It was Victor.
Fawn (horrified): Oh God! (Roark holds her)
Larry (bending down beside Brody, furious): I'm going to Victor's right now. He won't get away with this!
Deanna (running to him, almost hysterical): No Larry don't! He'll try to kill you too---he's insane!
Roark: I'll come too. (Notices Fawn about to object) Don't try and talk me out of it honey. Larry's right. Victor needs to be arrested.
Larry: If the bastard hasn't already fled.
Deanna: I don't want you doing this!
Larry: I want you and Fawn to go to the hospital with Brody. He really needs someone to be there for him. (Kisses her) I love you. (To Roark, who's also kissing Fawn goodbye) Come on Roark.
As the two men begin to leave, the paramedics arrive with a stretcher and their medical equipment. Suzanne Haines and her cameraman, who came to get something to eat, also come in. Suzanne sees Brody and freaks out.
Suzanne: Oh my God! What happened? Was he attacked?
Fawn: His father hurt him.
The paramedics gently put Brody on the stretcher. One of them places an oxygen mask over his face, and they take him to the waiting ambulance. Deanna rushes after them to explain to them she and Fawn are coming. As Fawn begins to follow her, Suzanne grabs her arm.
Suzanne: This might be crass but---
Fawn: You want to come along and report this?
Suzanne: If his father did attack him, we can put the word out and help him be sent to jail.
Fawn (a steely look on her face): Then let's go. It would serve Victor right to have his name all over the news. He's going to pay for harming Brody!
Roark and Larry are standing in front of Victor's apartment door, their bodies filled with adrenaline and fueled by rage.
Larry knocks loudly on the door and waits a few moments. Victor doesn't answer. Larry knocks even harder. Still no answer.
Roark: Let's break the door down. He knows we're probably after him.
Before the two can begin, a tall man with bulging triceps and short dark hair approaches them. He looks at the door disapprovingly.
Man: I saw that creep's son rush out bleeding. He wouldn't let me call the cops. You need the door busted down?
Roark: Yeah. So, you've witnessed Victor beating up on Brody? He's our best friend.
Man: They have terrible fights but Brody never wants the police to take his old man away. I guess he's afraid the jerk will kill him.
Larry: Looks like Brody finally decided to go to the police and Victor got scared, like the coward he is.
The muscled man starts slamming into the door with his left shoulder. After a few tries, the door gives way and bangs open. The three men race inside, and find Victor slumped against the couch asleep, empty beer cans in a half circle around him.
Roark (disgustingly): Damn drunk.
Man: I'm calling the cops.
Larry: Good idea. Hey---what's your name?
Man: It's Alex. Alex Perrini.
Larry: Thanks Alex.
Alex: Glad to be of help. (He heads to the phone on a stand by the other side of the couch and picks it up).
Roark: It's lucky he came by. No telling what Victor would have done if he was awake.
Larry: Come on, let's get out of here. Alex can stay here and babysit the drunk until the cops come. I'm sure Alex can take care of Victor if he wakes up. We need to see how Brody is doing.
Meanwhile, at the Grimes mansion, Ingrid is fixing tea for her brother Kane Garrett in the kitchen when the doorbell rings.
Ingrid: I'll get that Kane. (She leaves to answer the door).
Kane gets up from the kitchen table and stares out the window above the sink. A worried look crosses his handsome face as he looks out into the night.
Kane (to himself): The last thing I want to do is screw things up with my son. I'm afraid to wonder what he must think of me.
Just then, Ingrid comes into the kitchen with Paul Harper. Kane is still looking out the window deep in thought.
Paul (softly): Dad.
Kane gets a little startled and turns around to see his son looking at him.
Kane: Hi Paul.
Over at WBRE, Janet MacDonald is sitting at Chris' desk, still a little shaky from the events that happened earlier with the caller. Chris comes back with a cup of coffee and hands it to Janet.
Janet: Thanks. (Slowly sips some coffee) God, what a night.
Chris: Definitely not boring. (The phone rings. Chris and Janet exchange apprehensive looks) I guess I should answer it. (Picks up the receiver) Hello WBRE, Chris speaking...Who did you want to speak to? Yes she's right here...may I ask who's calling? A fan? Hold on please. (Covers the mouthpiece) It's some guy claiming to be a fan of yours. Do you want to take this call?
Janet: Sure. What's the worst that could happen, especially after tonight's news broadcast. I'm surprised he was able to get through, with all the calls we've been getting. (She takes the phone from Chris) Hello, this is Janet MacDonald.
Male Voice (low and raspy): Good evening Janet. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy watching you on the news.
Janet (relieved): Oh, thank you so much. That's very nice of you to say.
The man doesn't respond.
Janet: Hello? Hello? (To Chris) I think we got disconnected.
Male Voice: Janet?
Janet: Chris he's back. (Into the phone) Yes, I'm still here.
Male Voice: You know, you don't look like a Janet.
Janet (somewhat amused): I don't? Who am I supposed to look like?
Male Voice (the low and raspy voice turning into the scary high-pitched electronic tone): You look more like a Julie. (Janet gasps) That is your name isn't it? Julianna---
Janet (cutting him off, perturbed): No that's not my name you sicko! What kind of demented game are you playing?
Voice: You're the one playing games Julie not me. Why don't you tell the good people of this wonderful little town how you abandoned your family and your son all those years ago. I'm sure they'd like to know, and especially your coworkers, what a fake you really are!
Janet is in tears, unable to respond. Chris angrily grabs the phone.
Chris: It's you again isn't it? I don't know what the hell your problem is, but stop calling here! Do you understand?
Voice (irate): No, you don't understand! It's because of her people are going to die. Nobody is to blame but her! (The line goes dead with a loud click).
Chris hangs up the phone and wraps his arms around Janet, who is sobbing so heavily her shoulders are bobbing up and down like a buoy.
Chris: I'm telling Sam you're in no mood to anchor the eleven o'clock news. We'll get Evan to do it. Come on, I'll help you to your dressing room. (He helps Janet out of her chair, her tear stained face pressing into his chest).
Back to the Grimes kitchen.
Ingrid: I'll leave you two alone, and if you need me, I'll be in the den with Marcus, Lance, and Rosamond. (She leaves)
Paul and Kane look at each other for a moment, then Kane hangs his head in shame.
Paul: Dad, I'm not angry with you, but I would like to know why you freaked out on Aunt Ingrid and I today.
Kane (looks up at his son with a troubled face): It's a long and sad story and it involves more than just me.
Paul: I have plenty of time to hear it.
Kane: Oh God.
Paul: You can tell me. I'm your son and I love you. If it's that bad, maybe it's better that you get it off your chest.
Kane (sighing): You're right. Let's sit down. (The two sit at the table. Kane clears his throat.) What I'm about to tell you is very painful and awful. Back then, people really didn't talk about things like this...
Ingrid has been listening the whole time, he back against the wall behind the kitchen. She closes her eyes and grabs her temples in frustration.
Ingrid (to herself): You can't tell him Kane! You can't blab our secret! I've got to stop you...
