Kane had another outburst, this time directed at Valerie.

Paul began to search for the truth about Kane and Ingrid.

Russell and Wade learned from Victor that Brody was the Night Prowler, and Victor had robbed the town twenty-two years ago.

Now, onto tonight's episode. The summer of terror has arrived! This is where the killer claims their first victim---but who will it be?

Paul Harper is at his mother Valerie Talbot's home, sitting in the sunroom and drinking a glass of lemonade. Valerie joins him and sits in the chair across from him, very agitated.

Valerie: I don't know what got into your father earlier today. I've never seen him that furious. I know it has something to do with what he was going to tell you today.

Paul (annoyed): Every time Dad tries to talk to me about his childhood, there's an interruption. Now he's gone off and disappeared. He didn't go back to the mansion, or his condo, or to my house.

Valerie: What about the diner?

Paul: I tried there too. Loretta and Dorothy haven't seen him either, and Larry's at the hospital with his friend.

Valerie: Well, I'm worried. What if he loses his temper again and he hurts someone? (She gets up and looks out through the glass at the spacious backyard and sighs). I've risked so much to get him back in my life Paul. I gave up my marriage---I don't want to lose him! Not again! (She begins to cry).

Paul (rushing to his mother's side): Mom, don't cry. You know what? I'll go out and look for him. I just might know where's he at.

Meanwhile at the park, Kane Garrett is sitting on a bench, gazing at the lowering sun and the orange and purple sky. After he screamed at Valerie, he took off and drove around, trying to calm his fragile nerves, and ended up here. Now he's afraid he's losing his mind---again.

Kane: I can't stay like this anymore. The sudden fits of anger, the violent acts---I need help. (Thinking about Paul) I can't turn into Joanna Harper or Drennen Talbot. Paul has had enough psychos in his life, and I'll be damned if his own father becomes one too.

He looks at a little boy seesawing with his father. The memories of not being able to be with Paul while he was little are too much for Kane to bear, and he jumps off the bench, pained.

Kane: I've got to get out of here, before I crack up again. (He races towards the park entrance).

At Breckenridge Memorial Hospital, Brody Pearce is now fully awake and his friends Larry Sherwood, Roark Grimes, Fawn Hollister, and Deanna Thorpe are in his room with him. Earlier, his long-lost mother Janet MacDonald had come into his room and revealed herself to him. Now Brody is wanting her and wondering where she is.

Brody: My mother. Did you see her?

Larry: Your mother? Brody, I think you were dreaming.

Brody: No I wasn't. She was here. I started waking up and I heard her. She called me her "beautiful little boy."

Fawn (trying to placate him): Well, maybe it was a nurse and you mistook her for your mom. They did give you a lot of painkillers.

Brody (getting frustrated): It wasn't a nurse Fawn. It was my mom. She came back to be with me again. Can you look around the hospital and ask if anyone has seen her?

Fawn (somewhat exasperated): Okay Brody. We'll ask around. (The two couples leave the room).

Brody (softly): Mom please come back. I need you so much.

Fawn and the rest of the gang are at the nurses' station on Brody's floor, asking about his mother.

Fawn: Was there a woman who came to see Brody while we weren't there today? In room 404?

Nurse (trying to remember): Well, I do recall the TV reporter was asking to see Mr. Pearce. I just assumed she was doing a story on his attack and wanted to ask him some questions. (Fawn, Roark, and Larry look at Deanna curiously).

Deanna (in disbelief): It couldn't have been my mother!

Nurse: Your mother?

Deanna: Eliza Braxton.

Nurse: Oh no, it wasn't her. The woman that was here was blonde. She's the one who took your mother's place.

Deanna (really surprised): Janet MacDonald?

Nurse: That's the one.

Fawn: Uh, thanks for your help. (The four walk away, dumbfounded).

Deanna: I can't believe Janet is Brody's mother. I'm going to talk to Mom about this.

Fawn: We'll join you. I can't believe it either.

Larry: Why would she leave Brody like that?

Roark: With a husband like Victor, can you blame her? He probably threatened to kill her if she stayed.
