Kane Garrett, Valerie Talbot, and her daughters were at the park. They had just left Main Street after talking with the police. Zoe and Valerie were sitting on a park bench underneath a tree and Kane was standing up, his arms around Amaya, trying to console her.

Zoe meanwhile, had a terrible thought in her mind. Amaya had said a policewoman Barbie doll was on top of Sheila's stomach---the same doll Kane bought for her tonight. She didn't want to believe he was the killer, but his sudden urge to buy her and her sister Barbies---not to mention his frightening tantrums---made him look suspicious.

Zoe got up and began walking towards the swings, her mind now on her father Drennen and how he had become so unglued after coming to Breckenridge. She didn't want Kane to become unglued too. She saw the way her mother lit up when Kane was by her side.

Kane is so good to her, she thought, and to May and I too. I'd hate to think what would happen is he really was the maniac that's running around. She sat down on a swing and began to poke at the dirt beneath her with her sneaker.

A few moments later Amaya joined her on the swing next to her. "How are you holding up?"

"This is too crazy May," Zoe admitted to her older sister. "There's a serial killer on the loose and---" She hesitated, not wanting to reveal the suspicion that was gnawing away at her.

"And what?" Amaya finished for her. "Come on, it's okay to admit you're scared Zoe. Imagine how I felt finding that poor woman's body." She shivered violently. "I don't think I'll ever get those eyes staring up at me out of my mind, or the blood, or that doll with its hair whacked off."

The doll, Zoe thought. The police doll that Kane bought for me. Could he have bought a second one, and placed it there after he...

"No!" Zoe screamed, her cry piercing the deathly quiet night air. She jumped off the swing and began to run toward the small pond down by the picnic area. Amaya ran after and caught up to her, grabbing the back of her tie-dyed T-shirt.

"Zoe, what's gotten into you?" Amaya shouted. "Why did you run off like that?"

"Because I'm a horrible person!" Zoe shouted back in distress, panting.

At this point, Kane and Valerie have come running towards the girls, their faces filled with fury.

"Don't even think that!" Amaya replied vehemently.

"What would you say if I told you I thought Kane was the murderer?" Zoe blurted out.

Kane stopped in his tracks, blown away by her remark. Valerie gasped and covered her mouth. Amaya touched her sister's shoulder. "Zoe," she said softly, "why would you believe that? It's ridiculous! Kane's no killer."

Kane approached Zoe, concerned. "Zoe honey---"

"What about the doll?" Zoe cried, cutting him off.

"What doll?" Kane asked.

"The Barbie doll!" she replied, exasperated. "There was a policewoman Barbie on that lady's stomach. You bought the same doll for me."

Amaya and Valerie looked at Kane. Amaya had a frightened look on her face. There were also his outbursts too, she realized. Could he have snapped and killed those two women?

Kane saw the uneasiness on the sisters' faces. He couldn't have them thinking he was a maniacal murder. "Girls, whatever you're suspecting about me, it's not true. I couldn't kill anybody. That doll is just a horrible coincidence. I know I've been acting strange lately, but it's just my migraines." He opens up his arms. "I love your mom and I love you. I would never jeopardize what we have now. You've got to believe me. I'm not your father."

Overcome with guilt, the girls rush to him and accept his embrace. "It's all right," Kane soothes. "I'm not angry with you. I know you're scared. But the cops will catch this madman." He relaxes and smiles at Valerie. "Let's go home Val. I think I just passed my first test at being a father to teenagers." Valerie, also relaxed, returns his smile and the four begin to exit the park.
