Author's Notes: Well, what can I say? There isn't much to tell. At first I
wrote Guardian Angel as a one shot, but after a few days of thinking
about it I decided to take the next step and write this as a series.
My fic Forever is currently on hold, suggestions for that one would be
Greatly appreciated!
Enjoy!

Ketchum: The Journey Continues

The Spirit Cave - Part 1
Chapter 19

Musashi and I slid off Gyarados's head, we'd decided we had enough of
boats to last us a while.
"Thanks Gyarados, return."
My Fearow and Musashi's Pidgeot had flown ahead of us, saying they
needed to discuss 'bird stuff' for awhile. That was fine with us as long as
they came back.
As we set up camp I glanced at Marowak, I'd have to talk to her, she
seemed rather depressed.
"Hey Marowak, c'mere."
She looked at me and walked over, I sat down and set her in my lap.
"Let me guess, you miss your mom?"
(Yeah, I even miss my bully of a sister.)
"I'll let you in on a little secret, k?"
(Okay.)
"I really miss my mom too."
(You do?)
"Yeah, so you're not alone in this. I'll tell you what, once we're set up
I'll let you ride Dragonair and visit your mom, k? I don't like seeing sad
pokemon."
(Really?!)
"Really and truly! Won't your mom be impressed when you come visit
riding a Dragonair! And your sisters will be so jealous!"
"Hey Satoshi! Go collect some firewood would you?"
I stood up.
"Wanna come with me Marowak?"
She jumped up and followed me into the woods.

~~~~~~Musashi's POV~~~~~~
I grinned as Marowak followed Satoshi into the woods, she'd protect
him.
"Ivysaur!  Help me with this support pole!"
She came over and held it steady while I pulled the tarp over it.
"Thanks Ivysaur."
"Prepare for trouble!"
"And make it double!"
Oh no, not those idiots.
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To ignite all people within our nation!"
"To renounce the goodness of truth and love!"
"To expand our reach to the stars above!"
"Natsume!"
"Kunzite!"
"Team Rocket circling the solar system day and night!"
"Surrender now or be beaten in the fight!"
"Flare!"
"Go Golem!  Go Dewgong! Go Raichu!"  Kunzite yelled.
"Go Kadabra! Go Beedrill!  Go Scyther!"  Natsume screamed.
"Go Pikachu, Ivysaur, Raticate, Ekans, Sandshrew and Lupis!  Pikachu
Thunder Bolt Dewgong!  Ivysaur Vine Whip and Razor Leaf Golem!
Raticate Hyper Fang Raichu! Sandshrew Dig under Kadabra!  Lupis Fire
Spin Beedrill!  Ekans Wrap Scyther!"
"Kadabra Teleport! Beedrill Twin Needle!  Scyther Slash!"
"Golem Defence Curl!  Dewgong Aurora Beam!  Raichu Thunder!
Flareon Take Down that Charizard!"
With the Defence Curl Golem didn't take much damage.
"Solar Beam!"
Pikachu barely avoided the Aurora Beam and launched it's Thunder Bolt.
While Dewgong was paralysed she used another Thunder Bolt and took it
out.
Raticate got fried from the Raichu's Thunder Attack and Pikachu went to
deal with her evolved form.
Ekans was doing fairly well against Scyther, after her Wrap attack she
had used Bite.  Scyther was poisoned and weakening with every attack.
"Ekanssss . . . CHAARRRRBOK!"
Inwardly I cheered for Arbok as she renewed her Wrap attack and fainted
Scyther.
After the first Teleport Sandshrew had dug under again and managed to
surprise Kadabra, fainting it.
My newest Pokemon, Lupis, had royally beaten Beedrill with her Fire
Spin and gone to help Pikachu with Raichu.
One by one Team Rocket's pokemon fell.
"Inferno?"
He nodded and threw a Flamethrower that sent Team Rocket blasting off.
~~~~~~Satoshi's POV~~~~~~

When Marowak and I came back with the firewood I made good my
promise to her.
"I choose you, Dragonair!"
"Naiiiirrr!"
"Dragonair, would you give Marowak a ride back to her family for a
visit? She'll show you the way."
Dragonair nodded as I put Marowak on her back.
"See you soon! We'll wait here for you!" I waved to them.
Once they were out of sight I turned to Musashi.
"Hey Musashi, while Marowak and I were out we found a cave! My map
say's it'll lead us right to Lavender Town."
"Great!  What's it called?"
"Uhh . . ." I looked at the map again. "The Spirit Cave."
"Weird name."
I nodded.
"Hey Inferno, you staying out tonight?"
(Yeah, it's a nice night.)
Inferno lit the fire and I pulled out my book. Clefairy perched herself on
my head while Inferno sat behind me.
"So which one will it be tonight you two?"
He grabbed my bag and pulled one out. It was the first book I ever read
to him.
"Ok ok!" I laughed as I opened to chapter one.

~~~~~~Inferno's POV~~~~~~
I loved listening to Satoshi read, he could make the characters almost
come alive.  Also I was learning to read as well by following his example
and figuring out the words as he read them.
He snapped the book shut at the end of the chapter.  He paused on his
way to the tent.
"Oh yeah, Inferno?"
(Hmm?)
"I got a book for you, it's the skinny white one in my bag."
I could've swore my face actually glowed.
It was late that night, I stayed by the fire.
*F is for Fire . . .*
"Meowth, so da kid figured it out."
*Yeah, but I'm having a little trouble . . .*
"Don't worry yerself lizard, you'll get it."
*How long did it take you?*
"'bout a year 'n a half."
I frowned, I wanted to learn now!
"Meowth'll help ya."
*Really?*
"Yeah, got nuthin' betta ta do.  First ya gotta make da mouth movement
fer da letters before ya can say 'em."
That was going to be hard, I didn't have lips.
"We'll woik on da ones ya need lips fer later."
*Thank you Meowth.*
"Rrrrrrrr . . ."
By the Fire God this was hard!  But I had figured out the alphabet, all I
needed to now was to learn how to make words from it.
It wasn't long before the Warrior of Psychic made his appearance.
We spoke for awhile, he eased my worries concerning the Spirit always
around Satoshi.
~~~~~~Satoshi's POV~~~~~~

I watched the sky for Fearow, Dragonair, Marowak and Musashi's
Pidgeot while Inferno was trying to enunciate letters. I couldn't blame
him for wanting to learn to read so badly, he really liked my books. Of
course he wouldn't be able to read them for a long while so in the last
town I had gotten a couple of those pre-schooler books for him to read. I
wasn't really surprised that Meowth was helping him.
(We're back!)
"HEY FEAROW! DOWN HERE!" I waved my arms, she and Pidgeot
made a smooth landing.
(Satoshiiii!)
And there was Dragonair and Marowak!
(You should've see the look on mother's face Satoshi! She looked to
proud! And my sisters were soooo jealous!)
"Whoa, slow down Marowak! You can tell us all about it later, k?"
(Okay!) She chirped as I recalled her.
"Thanks for doing that for Marowak Dragonair."
(It's okay, the look on all their faces was worth it.) He yawned.
"Get some rest Dragonair, return."
(Wait, Satoshi.)
"Yeah?"
(The Warrior of Ground told me to tell you that we're close to the
Warrior of Psychic's territory.)
"Thanks for the news."
(I already spoke with the Warrior, he wishes us well on our journey.)
Inferno rumbled.
Well, that was a relief!
With everyone back from their little trips we packed up and made our
way to the Spirit Cave. Odd name that.
Oh well, it probably had some myth to go with it.

Oh yes, aptly named place. They should've called it the Cave of Mists.
The mouth was shrouded in thick mists and I think they extended through
the whole cave.
"Hey Inferno, you're up in front. We'll need a light."
(No problem.)
I recalled Clefairy, I didn't want her to get badly frightened. She was just
a baby after all.
He led us into the cave, even with his tail flame we could only see about
three feet in front of him.
Someone laughed.
"Hey Musashi, what's so funny?"
"Umm, I thought that was you . . ."
"Meowth?"  We both asked.
"Wasn't me."
I shivered. Now I was getting a little scared. Musashi clung to my jacket
as I held onto Inferno's.
"Would it be too much to ask if that was you Inferno?"
(No, wasn't me.)
Oh geez . . .
"Pi kachu."
"Satoshi? Please tell me that was your Pikachu!"
"Nuh uh, I thought it was yours."
But the voice had sounded familiar.
Somewhere a Pidgey chirped. I bit my lip, trying not to let the mystery
voices get to me.
"Pikapi!"
I stopped in mid step. No way . . .
