Authors Notes: Here I am again and all ready for season 2 of this fic for
the few of you that'll probably come banging on my door to demand I
finish this already.
As usual, Feedback would be greatly appreciated! And so would
suggestions for the final chapter of my fic Forever. I kinda got writers
block on that one.

Ketchum: The Journey Continues
Season 2

Battle For The Earth Badge! - Part 2
Chapter 4

I jumped away from Rare Beauty's Water Gun and delivered a Slash
attack. She grunted and swung her tail around to trip me.
We weren't going to use our special attacks, this was pretty much a free
for all fight to increase their levels.
Musashi was fighting with Candy. Amazingly she hasn't said one word
about this training session.

Raptor had been quite amused when he saw our pokemon forms, even
now he was still clapping and giving little chirps in happiness. I guess
when he's older he'll stop with the chirping sounds.
Inferno was sparring with Tochi.
*Zeus! Double team with me!*
*Right!* He called as he left his fight with Chewy to join me.
I'd also made it quite clear to Raptor that if he tried to hurt Pirow he'd be
punished.
Rare Beauty roared as she tried to get us both with a Bite attack.
I glanced around, they were all getting tired. We'd been fighting like this
since one o'clock and it was five now.
*Okay everybody! Your turn is over!* I called out. They all stopped and
collapsed. Can't blame them really they'd been fighting four hours
straight. As did the group before them. I recalled them and got the last
four of my pokemon that haven't trained yet. Pippi, Flutter, Lullaby and
Ramona. Pippi was old enough to train with the rest of us, I wasn't
going to start training Pirow for another month. I wasn't going to start
with Raptor for another four months.
Oh man do I have a handful!
Musashi and I took a break, we'd been training two groups since nine this
morning and we were exhausted.
*Ask him if you and I can train then.* I turned to the two bickering
babies.
*Both of you, the answer is no. Pirow I'm starting your training next
month. Raptor, you're still too young.*
*Awww . . .* Pirow pouted.
*Satoshi, this sucks.* Musashi finally said.
*You said you'd help.*
*I thought we were going to battle like regular people! Not participate in
free for all's!*
I shrugged the best I could while laying on my stomach.
*I choose you, Pippi, Ramona, Flutter and Lullaby.* I said tiredly as I
opened their pokeballs. When they came out I explained what I wanted
them to do. They agreed and began. I'd told them we'd join them a little
later when we had our strength back.
*Have a Potion then, it'll make you feel better.* Pirow said as he perched
on my horn.
*No Pirow. It's a good idea but this training session is strictly no Potions
allowed. That includes me and Musashi.*
I swear I'm never going to become a father, these two will probably kill
me first.

"Good luck Satoshi." Musashi whispered in my ear as we shared a quick
hug in front of the gym.
Yesterday I'd managed to get into the free for all until about nine pm
before we headed back to the Pokemon Centre. When we got there
Nurse Joy berated me for training them too hard. I wanted to say 'I
know how they feel' so badly but I couldn't so just gave them all a hearty
dinner and went to sleep.

I took a deep breath and entered the gym, Raptor was in my pack taking
a nap.
"I challenge the Gym Leader for the Earth Badge!"
For some reason it didn't feel safe to say my name here. I put my hand
on Inferno's pokeball for a little comfort.
"Accepted, six on six. No time limit."
"Right." I climbed up the ladder to the platform and looked at my
opponent. I shivered, remembering the story of the Viridian Gym leader
when she and dad were here. Something about a super pokemon . . .
I shook my head, no time for that now. Then my head started to pound.
Oh no . . . not now!
"I choose you, Inferno!"
(Ready to rumble!)
I've got to stop letting him watch WWF Raw is War.
"Go Rhydon."
Oh great.
"Fly and Seismic Toss!"
"Rock Throw."
The boulder missed him, but not by much. He picked up the huge Rock
type and executed a perfect Seismic toss despite it's weight.
Rhydon groaned and stood up.
"Take Down."
"Fire Blast!"
I wasn't going to call for their special attacks unless it got necessary.
Rhydon charged right through the Fire Blast and slammed into Inferno.
Okay, it just got necessary.
"Fire Claw!"
If I could've seen the Gym Leader's face I'm sure he would have blinked.
I know Rhydon did after he groaned in pain after the Fire Claw hit it.
"Tail Slam!" Inferno swung around and his tail connected solidly with
Rhydon's gut and sent it into a wall.
The Gym leader got over his shock.
"Horn Drill."
No way! You're not getting Inferno down that easily!
I watched as Rhydon charge with it's horn pointed toward Inferno.
"Batter's up!" I yelled.
Inferno turned to the side, lifted up his tail, and slammed it into Rhydon's
gut again. Sending it the wall again.
It didn't get up this time.
I smiled.
"Great job Inferno!"
(As usual.)
"Don't let it go to your head! Charmeleon can still kick your tail!" I said
to deflate his growing ego. It worked.
"Impressive." He said as he recalled Rhydon. "Go, Kingler."
When I said strong Water types I had been referring to Rare Beauty. I
was pretty sure Fire Claw could take Kingler out.
"Fire Claw!"
"Guillotine."
Inferno's attack ripped through the Guillotine, but it had been weakened
and didn't faint Kingler.
"Water Gun."
Inferno roared in pain. I winced, I knew how that felt.
"Fire Spin!"
Kingler was out, but Inferno couldn't last another battle.
"Great job Inferno, return." Wearily he flew up to the platform beside me
and began to snore.
"Your Charizard is well trained."
"I try. I choose you, Ramona!"
"Go, Machamp."
So this was the Machamp that nearly beat Venusaur. Man, what a size
difference between it and Ramona.
"Bonemarang!"
"Karate Chop."
"Champ!"
(Ow . . .) Ramona groaned as she got to her feet again.
"Leer." We both called.
Both of their defences was weakened.
"Bone Club!"
"Seismic Toss."
Machamp winced at Ramona's attack, Ramona gave a little whimper as
she was slammed into the ground. I winced, ohhh she'd be really feeling
that tomorrow.
Phew, Musashi wasn't kidding when she said this guy would give me a
really tough battle.
"Ramona, catch!" I tossed out a Hyper Potion to her, she caught it in her
mouth and swallowed.
"Submission."
(Gak . . .!) She choked.
"Bone Club!"
She rammed the bone into its gut. It grunted and let go.
"Finish it, Bonemerang!"
Machamp was out. Ramona nearly was too.
"Great fight Ramona! Return!"
The Gym Leader said nothing as he recalled Machamp. Gym Leader, 3
pokemon remaining. Me, 4 pokemon remaining.
Things were looking good.
<"This is truly a challenge! You were right to be fretting about this
match!">
"Go, Venomoth."
"I choose you, Tananda!"
(Ready to fight!) She squawked.
"Poison Powder."
"Feather Barrage!"
"ROOOOWWW!"
"Moth . . ." Venomoth was out.
"Go, Electabuzz."
<"Uh oh."> Charmeleon muttered.

"Thunder Bolt."
"Get out of the way!" I shouted to her. She dodged. "Drill Peck!"
"Thunder Punch."
Poor Tananda was toasted. Now I had only B.B., Makaar and Rare
Beauty. Eletabuzz wouldn't be that scared of Makaar, Rare Beauty
would be roast. Damn! I knew I should've brought Tochi!
"I choose you, B.B.!"
(Ready to fight!) He screeched.
"Mega Punch."
I couldn't believe I was going to call for this . . .
"Pollen Pump!"
This was an extremely silly attack. Last trainer I used this against nearly
bust a gut laughing when he heard me call it out.
B.B. took in a deep breath, then his mouth opened as wide as it could and
he began pumping pollen at Electabuzz. It began sneezing and it's Mega
Punch went wild, missing B.B. by a mile.
I still groan when I call it out.
"Razor Leaf!"
Still sneezing, Electabuzz couldn't do anything.
"Finish it! Wrap!"
Electabuzz was out.
"Return."
"Great going B.B.!"
This was his last pokemon, and it was bound to be the hardest.
"Go, Alakazam."
Yup, I knew it.
"Pollen Pump!"
"Psychic."
B.B. was out.
Now who do I use? Rare Beauty wouldn't have any luck against that.
So I'd use the intimidation factor of my team.
"I choose you, Makaar!"
"Psybeam."
"Shriek!"
Makaar finally had control over his Shriek, he could focus it at his
opponent now, everyone's ears a lot of pain. Thinking of which . . . my
headache is gone!
Alakazam reeled in pain. Raptor popped his head out of my pack and
looked at the battle with his head resting on my shoulder, I guess he felt
Alakazam's Psybeam.
Makaar hurt from the Psybeam, but he was okay.
"Recover."
Oh no . . . I groaned inwardly.
"Spirit Bomb!" His finishing move, really powerful. Hopefully it could
take out Alakazam.
Makaar concentrated, Spirits and Ghosts of all shapes and sizes began
circling over him. He opened his bird-like beak wide and the Spirits began
to collect into a ball about the size of a basket ball.
He fired just as Alakazam was regaining its senses and its hearing.
"WE WON! YES!"
"Very impressive, you raise your pokemon very well. You have earned
the Earth Badge." He tossed it down to me and I beamed as I pinned it
into my jacket and recalled Makaar.
"One question though." I paused at the door.
"Yeah?"
"Where did you find your Banshee? I have been looking for one to add
to my team."
"In China, near the Cursed Springs."
I left and joined Musashi outside.

We were celebrating late into the night at the Pokemon Centre. Look out
Indigo Plateau, me and Musashi are going to take you by storm!
