In the laboratory, Ms Fairweather is working when an alarm sounds and Ryan enters. Security guards arrive to apprehend Ryan, but Ms Fairweather lets Ryan go. Finding his father, Ryan tells Capt Mitchell that he isn’t staying at Lightspeed - he came to say goodbye. Ryan doesn’t know if there is any good left in him, and is leaving Mariner Bay to find out who he really is. As he leaves, Captain Mitchell gives him a small silver box, telling him to open it when he knows that he is truly good.
After Queen Bansheera threatens to remove his star power, Diabolico pulls out all the stops, summoning his three last and most powerful monsters and sending them into the city. The three monsters begin scattering white feathers all over the city. Walking through a park, one such feather floats down in front of Ryan, and he gives the feather to a boy he meets to cheer up his sister. The boy happily thanks Ryan, and Ryan walks away. Arriving at the bus station, Ryan can’t decide where to go, and sits down on a bench. The woman sitting next to him tells him that, wherever he is going, he should follow his heart, and he’ll end up right where he is supposed to be.
Meanwhile, the Lightspeed Power Rangers have arrived in Mariner Bay, and begin to fight the three monsters. However, they do not do well, and get beaten up pretty badly by the three monsters. When they regroup, the monsters throw Carter a feather. When the monsters briefly block out the sun, the feather explodes, knocking the Rangers down. At sunset, the feathers will all explode, and will destroy the city. Watching from afar, Mitchell has Lightspeed issue an official alert. At the bus station, Ryan is just about to get onboard a bus when he overhears a news report about the feathers. Remembering the feather he’d given to the two kids, he realises what he has to do, and races off to save them. The sun slowly sinks towards the horizon.
The Rangers try to destroy the three monsters using a sneak-attack from the Unilaser, but the monsters just deflect the blast. The Rangers are blasted through a wall into a warehouse, and the monsters throw dozens of feathers at them. As the sun sets, the exploding feathers throw the Rangers down and demorph them. Meanwhile, Ryan finally catches up to the two children, grabs the feather and flings it over a bridge just as the sun sets. The feather explodes, but the kids are safe. As the brother and sister thank Ryan, he remembers the silver box his father gave him, and opens it.
Just as the monsters move to kill the Rangers once and for all, Ryan leaps into the building, knocking the monsters away. As the Rangers (and Capt Mitchell) watch in awe, Ryan morphs with the Titanium Morpher that his father gave him, and easily beats up all three monsters, sending them running. Dana tearfully hugs her brother, and he tells her that he is here to stay. Back at Lightspeed, Ms Fairweather tells Captain Mitchell that there was minimal damage due to the feathers, and that everyone is okay.
That night, Ryan is officially made a Lightspeed Power Ranger, even given his own jacket. But after he falls asleep, he dreams that Diabolico attacks him and gives him a cobra tattoo on his back. Diabolico says that, every time Ryan morphs, the cobra will move up his back until it reaches his neck and destroys him. Ryan wakes up in a cold sweat, and quickly checks in a mirror. To his horror, he finds the cobra tattoo is really there!
Another awesome episode, people. Typical Lightspeed fair - action-packed, exciting, some great fight scenes and a fun ride to be had by all. It was great seeing Ryan’s personal struggle, and I loved his decision at the last possible moment to dash off and save the day. And the way they showed the sun slowing sinking beneath the horizon as Ryan tries desperately to find the kids was unreal. Edge-of-your-seat stuff. On a related note, that nice old lady Ryan met at the bus station deserves an award. As well, that fight scene at the end was awesome! I loved seeing Ryan so effortlessly defeat all three monsters. This is the reason I watch Power Rangers.
And I have to admit, those monsters were cool. That was a neat effect when one of them performed the Xena-patented spinning kick and pummeled poor Chad and Carter, and it was pretty cool when the third monster picked up Kelsey and Dana and juggled them through the air. One thing bothered me about the monsters, though. Not only do they tell their plan to destroy Mariner Bay with the feathers in great detail to the Lightspeed Rangers, but they also show them, allowing Lightspeed to save the city. Diabolico, dude, get smarter monsters.
Apart from some minor plot-holes, I loved this one. Ryan has hit quite a stumbling block on his quest to become one of the good guys, and I’ll totally be watching to see how this turns out. Hey, at least he got a jacket. And I still say we should give an Academy award to that nice old lady at the bus station.
Forget the best line of the episode, I’m awarding the Best Guest Character of the Series today, to that nice old lady that Ryan sat down next to at the Bus Station. In about twenty seconds of screen time, she completely put Ryan’s priorities into place for him, and basically saved the day. Let’s see her employed by Lightspeed.
