Jax: Would a retainer of $10,000 do?
Mac: Jax, wake up. Someone is plotting to kill you.
Jax: OK, 50, then.
Mac: Give me five minutes, will you? Stop thinking about money. Listen, you cut the police out of this, you could be cutting your own throat. We don't know who's after you. We don't know why. We don't know how to stop them.
Jax: But that's why I'm trying to hire you to find out. Look, if you want to know what a law enforcement officer would do, just ask V. Or don't you think you're as competent as the police?
Felicia: Jax, let me explain the difference. If we find out who wants to kill you, then we can't arrest them.
Jax: OK, then let me be blunt. I don't want the authorities sticking their noses into my financial dealings right now, which logically speaking they'd do.
Mac: Since, logically speaking, you've shafted many business partners and they'd all like to see your head on a silver platter.
Jax: This docks deal I'm involved in, for example, is held together by spit and gum. It wouldn't take a lot of what you'd call legal scrutiny.
Mac: I see. And then there's your brother Jerry, and nothing he does would hold up to legal scrutiny.
Jax: Now you're getting the picture. So if you two can save my skin while keeping this under wraps and keeping it quiet, then I would be a very grateful man -- very grateful. Come on, Mac. Think of what James and his cronies have put you through. Wouldn't you rather square things with them yourself than hope the police handle it?
James: Hey, leave me out of it. I didn't do anything wrong.
Mac: Look, Jax, if you are asking us to keep this under wraps -- you know, me being held hostage while he impersonated me -- you are giving Felicia and I a huge mess to scramble out from under.
Felicia: Everyone thinks we're engaged.
Mac: Yeah, that's right. And now they're just waiting for us to walk right down the aisle.
James: Don't even think about it. Look, I'm the one who did all the work. I'm the one who kept proposing until she said yes.
Mac: Even our close friends believed it, people who should have known better. We have to straighten them out.
Jax: Wait a minute. You're telling me it was the fake Mac that popped the question? And just when I was starting to think you weren't such a dim wit after all.
Mac: Ignore him. Is this something you want to do?
Felicia: Accept a $50,000 retainer fee? Yeah, that's something I could do. Sounds like something you could do, too, except that crushing burden of us being engaged to each other.
Mac: Come on, Felicia. You know it's not that.
V: I must say, Mac, it sure does sound that
way. You tell us that you were drugged, kidnapped, and held prisoner
by these people, but the only thing that seems to concern you
is being out of the dating pool.
Mac: Don't be ridiculous. Golden boy here wants us to lie. I am just pointing out the consequences.
[doorbell rings]
After they stash away James somewhere
V: Brenda.
Brenda: did I come at a bad time?
V: No, not at all.
Brenda: You weren't naked or anything, were you?
V: Yes I was - Jax honey - Brenda's here.
Wait, no that's my imaginary scene. Here's the real one
V: Why do you ask?
Brenda: Just because it took you a really long time to answer the door.
V: Oh.
Brenda: Can I come in?
V: Yeah.
Brenda: Oh. What's going on here?
V: Mac and Felicia were thinking about maybe not getting married.
Brenda: What?
V: Well, but then they decided that that would be a bad idea, right?
Brenda: Oh. Are you guys still arguing over that stupid magazine thing? I mean, look, I'm totally over it. If Mac wants to sit around and talk to tabloid reporters about me, that's fine with me. No one reads those things anyway.
Felicia: Mm-hmm.
Brenda: You got your work cut out for you.
Felicia: Don't I know it.
Jax: Do we understand each other?
Mac: Yeah, whatever. V, you'll handle that little delivery for us?
V: My pleasure -- sort of.
Mac: Thanks. Let's go.
Felicia: OK. Bye-bye.
V: Bye.
Brenda: Bye.
Mac: Bye.
Jax: I don't know how you tracked me down, but here I am. What's up?
Brenda: Well, I'm not trying to track you down. I came here to see V.
V: Me?
Brenda: Oh, yeah. If you guys are finished here.

Jax: Yeah, yeah, we're finished. If you need a hand with that item, let me know, OK? |
V: OK. Thanks, Jax. So long. Bye. |
Jax: Bye.
Brenda: What, is he trying to make you feel like you're too girlie to move your couch or something? He always does that to me.
V: Hmm.
Brenda: Anyway, so, listen, I'm here for something really important. I need to know what Jax's calendar looks like for the next few days.
V: Oh. It's not that bad, actually. I mean, he's -- yeah -- he's left a lot of free time so that he can devote any extra time that he has to the docks project.
Brenda: Good.
V: Why? I mean, and don't tell me it's because you want to make an appointment with mr. Jacks because he'd kill me. I mean, to him you come way before the calendar.
Brenda: Oh. That's sweet. I'm going to hijack him
Next Scene. Jax is sitting downstairs
Brenda: Oh. I don't remember asking you to wait.
Jax: You were harassing my assistant, weren't you?
Brenda: Oh, now you're getting possessive. yep - it's about time
Jax: It was about me, wasn't it?
Brenda: You are such an egomaniac. Do you really think that I have nothing else in the world to do but think about you and talk about you and it's just all about you?
Jax: So you were giving V makeup tips. Is that it?
Brenda: Well, you know
