Courteney Cox was born in Birmingham, Alabama on June 15, 1964. She moved to New York City after her graduation from high school (Mountain Brook high school), where she was signed by the Ford modelling agency. Soon after this, she started working in television commercials for Maybelline, Noxema and the New York Telephone Company, among others.

In 1984 she made her acting debut on the daytime drama As the World Turns, and later that year she appeared in Bruce Springsteen's music video Dancing in the Dark. Before Friends, Courteney's most memorable television series role was that of Lauren, Alex P. Keaton's (Michael J. Fox) girlfriend on Family Ties. She has had guest-starring parts on such hits as Murder, She Wrote and Seinfeld, and has also starred in several television movies. Of her motion-picture credits, Courteney is best known for her roles in the hit Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (opposite Jim Carrey), and in Wes Craven's Scream, starring Neve Campbell. Her new film, Commandments with Aidan Quinn, will be released in England later this year. On stage, she starred with Michael Spound in King of Hearts at the Tiffany Theatre in Los Angeles. When she is not working, she enjoys remodelling and decorating homes. Courteney lives in Los Angeles with her husband, actor David Arquette.
