Marlena's Return 1991

The scene opens with RoJohn on the pier on a foggy August night. He looks around the pier. He sees a woman standing over by the stairs as he turns to leave the woman calls out to him

Marlena: Roman!

RoJohn turns to the woman in amazement. The voice! He knows it can't be who he thinks it is. The woman slowly walks towards him. He inches towards her in amazement. Tears fill his eyes. He can see her clearly there are tears streaming down her angelic face.

Marlena: It's Marlena!
RoJohn: No!

They both inch towards each other.

Marlena: Yes!

They're standing right in front of each other. RoJohn slowly reaches up to touch her face. He's shaking. As he touches her face Marlena gasps!

RoJohn: Doc, it's you! It's really you. Oh my god! Oh my god!
They embrace and cry in each other's arms.

RoJohn: Doc!

RoJohn caresses her hair and tries to take it all in.

RoJohn: You're real?
Marlena nods her head.
RoJohn: When you were gone I thought I would never see you again.
Marlena: Roman, I know this is really hard to believe.
RoJohn: I'm not questioning it Doc. You're here.

RoJohn cups her face with his left hand and they rub faces. He kisses her on the cheek.

Marlena: Roman!
RoJohn: You're here!

They kiss. They break the kiss but stay in each other's arms.
Marlena: Closer! Get closer!
The embrace lasts for a few seconds and then they break. RoJohn looks as though he wants to say something.
Marlena: What?
RoJohn: Someone wrote me a note. It said to meet me at the Continental Bar. That was you!
Marlena: Yes!
RoJohn: But when I showed up late you came to the house.
Marlena: Yes.
RoJohn: But you left the house!
Marlena: Yes! Roman there were so many people there. I decided to be alone with you. I thought if...(Marlena turns away from RoJohn) well I just had the feeling that maybe...
RoJohn: What?!
Marlena turns back towards Roman.
Marlena: Look I was so confused. I was so desperate. This place was always so special to us. I just thought perhaps if I came here you'd know. That sounds crazy don't it?
RoJohn: No.
Marlena: No!
RoJohn: No I did know. I've been fighting it all day.
RoJohn walks back-in-forth.
RoJohn: I've been telling myself I'm so damn rational, so smart...a note from a woman for Captain Brady, wouldn't leave a message...I just, just thought someone was trying to mess with my mind all day long.
RoJohn takes Marlena's hand.
Marlena: I wasn't trying to be mysterious about it. I was just. I was trying!
RoJohn: I knew what you meant. I knew and even thought I kept telling myself it couldn't be something inside me that died 5 years ago was alive again.
Marlena: Oh Roman! God!
RoJohn: I can't even explain it. I knew that you were out here and something was drawing me to find you.
RoJohn kisses Marlena's hand.
Marlena: Oh! You must be in shock!
RoJohn: Yeah, I think you could day that.
Marlena: You just...you just need some time. We just need some time. That's all.
RoJohn: Time. How about now? I'm talking right now. This very second.
Marlena: We need to talk.
RoJohn: Yeah we gotta talk. We can't talk here. We got..we can't..we have to so som..
RoJohn hits himself of the head. I can't even think straight.
Marlena takes his hands.
Marlena: That's all right. I know where we can go. Come!

They put their arms around each other. They walk up the stairs never breaking their embrace as the scene ends.
