She was his first wife and the woman he just couldn't forget! John Black and Marlena
Evans first met when he was bandaged and he didn’t know who he was. The name John Black
came from a plaque at the hospital. John Black was eventually hired on to handle
the security at the hospital when there was a rapist attacking University Hospital
staff. John and Marlena spent a lot of time together(most of the time they were arguing)
which led to their falling in love. John ended up saving Marlena on several occasions
and it was their team work that led to the arrest of the rapist. Once the rapist
was caught John and Marlena started on a journey to find out John’s true identity
in the mountains of West Virginia. John had suspicions that he might be Stefano DiMera,
the man who killed Marlena’s husband Roman. When all was said and done they found
out that the man they called John Black was really Roman Brady with plastic surgery.
Once they were home they resumed their lives together. It wasn’t easy but it was
their undying love that saw them through the rough times. RoJohn and Marlena’s love
would be tested when Marlena fell off the side of a building trying to talk a jumper
down. She was in a coma for two months. Through it all their love prevailed. Marlena
woke up and RoJohn proposed to her. On August 22, 1986 they renewed their wedding
vows in a beautiful ceremony. Unfortunately things still would not run smoothly for
these two. The ISA kidnapped Marlena in exchange for information on treasury bonds
which Roman hid when he was on assignment in Stockholm back in the early 80s. Marlena
was eventually able to get away from the ISA but when she escaped she literally ran
right into the arms of Orpheus, who took her hostage. Orpheus was Roman’s partner
back in Stockholm. One night they were on a stake out and Orpheus’s wife came to
warn them about some trouble heading their way when Roman accidentially shot her.
RoJohn was able to get Marlena away from Orpheus and they were blissfully reunited
in Stockholm. = )
Roman and Marlena finally thought that they could get on
with their lives but tragedy struck once again. Orpheus rigged an explosion to make
it appear as though Marlena was killed. He whisked Marlena away to a tropical island
where he had her care for his two children. He did all of this so Roman would feel
the same pain that he felt when he lost his wife. Meanwhile back in Salem Roman was
desperately trying to move on with his life but something kept telling him that Marlena
was not dead. Eventually he was able to figure out where Orpheus was holding Marlena
captive but he got there too late! Orpheus had already sent Marlena away on a plane
which crashed in the ocean. Marlena’s body was never found. For the next five years
RoJohn hopped from woman to woman never really finding what he had with Marlena until
1991 he was reunited with his one true love when Marlena came back to him on their
pier one foggy night. They have been reunited and torn apart many times over the
next 8 year but John and Marlena were finally married again on July 6, 1999.
After Marlena's death Roman jumped from one woman to the next. He never could find someone to fill his heart like Marlena. Eventually Roman met and fell in love with Isabella Toscano. They were engaged to be married when Marlena came back to reclaim her family. Isabella gave Roman his ring back. Marlena and Roman need to find out what happened to her during her missing years so they headed to the island of San Cristobal. While on the island they found a man who looked like the origional Roman. Nothing could be determined on the island so the three of them headed back to Salem. . A DNA test was run on the men and it was revealed that the man in the jungle was the real Roman. Even though they knew who was Roman they all needed answers which led them to find the man responsible for this whole mess: Stefano DiMera. The search led them to Mexico. While they were there they found Stefano who had a briefcase filled with documents confirming who John really was. The briefcase and most of it's contents were destroyed in a fire. Stefano once again was shot and killed. There still weren't any answers but it was now time for Marlena to choose. She was torn between the two men. Marlena knew that she couldn't hurt Roman because of all he went through but a part of her could not release John. Marlena's decision was made easier when she found out that Isabella was pregnant with John's child. John and Isabella started a new life together. John and Isabella were married on May 19, 1992. During the ceremony a very pregnant Isabella went into labor. Brady Victor Black was born just after John and Isabella finished the ceremony. John and Isabella looked as though they would live happily ever after until fate stepped in. A few months after Brady's birth Isabella was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and she died with in a few months.
While in the underground tunnels Kristen was injured and almost lost her baby. They were able to save the baby but a few days later on John and Marlena's 10th Anniversary Kristen miscarried the baby. She hid the fact that she lost the baby from John with help from Stefano. He hired a pregnant look alike to take Kristen's place in the delivery room. Marlena kept her promise not to tell John about Kristen's scheming but the minute Kristen gave birth John was going to be told the truth. The only problem was that John married Kristen(Susan) in the deliveryroom. Susan had trouble dealing with giving up her baby. Hope saw Susan was so upset so she gave her Marlena's card. Susan set up an appointment with Dr. Marlena Evans. She talked to Marlena about her baby and Marlena told her that she would help her to get her baby back but Susan decided to handle it herself. Susan went to Kristen and she was able to convince her to let her be the baby's nanny. Soon Susan began to become taken with John. Susan was a loose cannon and Kristen knew that. She constantly feared that she would tell John the truth so Kristen had a secret room built. The room would hold Susan until Stefano could come to town for her and take her away. Soon Marlena stumbled on to the truth. She confronted Kristen and she confirmed everything. Marlena was about to tell John the truth when Kristen locked her up in the secret room. Her plan backfired when Susan locked her in the room with Marlena. The two of them stood by as John married Susan again. Both desparate to get out they began to chip away at the plaster on the wall. Unfortunately Kristen hit a gas line and the two were almost killed by the fumes but John found them and rescued them in time. Marlena reveals all of Kristen's wrong doings. John and Susan's marriage was then declareed invalid.
