John's on the Kiriakis jet. He sits down in one of the chairs and dials Marlena's number.

John: Roman...Marlena this is John Black. I was hoping one of you would be home. Uhm this uhm is more for Marlena since Roman you and I said our good-byes. As you already know I'm leaving for Europe tonight and once I'm settled in I'll be in touch. However it might not be for a while so I just wanted to day good-bye...and

John hangs up. He gets up from the chair and walks towards the door when suddenly Marlena appears. Both stare at each other in amazement.

Marlena: I'm glad I got here before it's too late.
John: I just left a message on your answering machine.
Marlena: You can't leave like this.
John: It's best. I don't know why I'm saying it's best. It's not best.

John turns away from Marlena.

Marlena: What is it?
John: Why did you come here?
Marlena: Are you sure you're doing the right thing?
John: I'm sure. I'm sure. I'm sure.
Marlena: John look at me.
John: It's not going ot make any difference Doc.
Marlena: I just want to see our face. Surely you'll allow me that . Won't you?

John turns back towards Marlena.

John: Allow you?
Marlena: I'm so scared. I'm just scared for all of us. Mostly I'm scared for Brady. You can't take him from the only family he's ever known. You can't have thought this through. Have you?
John: I've thought this thing through and yes it's going to be tough going for Brady and me for quite some time but down the line...
Marlena: You lost Isabella. Don't separate yourself and your son from the rest of your family.
John: This is the way it's got to be Doc. You know that.
Marlena: No I don't know that. No I don't. We're adults.
John: And this is the adult thing to do. Trust me.
Marlena: Trust you. No, no running away is not adult. You and I can live in the same town. We can.
John: And do what and do what? Just see each other at functions say hello and maybe do a little kiss on the cheek. At arms length we'll engage in some trivial chit chat. Oh I don't think so Doc.
Marlena: Alright. Alright but taking Brady away just because of...
John: Just because
Marlena: Just because of what's going on between us.
John: That's right because if I stay here in Salem I'm going to hurt Roman and I'm going to hurt you and I respect Roman far too much. God knows I care for you.

Tears start to roll down Marlena's face.

John: And I don't even know why we're having this conversation. I've already said all of this over and over again so please tell me what is the point.

John sits down on the couch.

Marlena: Alright. How long will you be gone?
John: I don't know.
Marlena: Weeks?

John says nothing.

Marlena: Months?

John still says nothing.

Marlena sits next to John with one hand on his shoulder and the other on the inside of his thigh.

Marlena: John you're wrong if you think you're doing this for me. You're wrong. I can't even imagine my life without you. I don't want to imagine my life with out you. I want you in my life. I need you.

John sits across from Marlena.

John: You shouldn't have come here Doc.
Marlena: There are a lot of things I shouldn't have done. I never should have fallen in love with you to begin with. I shouldn't have done that. It shouldn't have happened. The man I love...the man I will always love is Roman. But then you came along and...and it just happened...it just happened and I couldn't help it. Oh God that's so pathetic. It didn't have to happen. I wanted it to happen. I really wanted to love you. I do love you and now I'm driving you away.
John: It's the only way out.
Marlena: Is it? I...I...I don't know that. I don't know that. I also don't know that if in some point in my life I'm going to stop having these feelings I have for you .
John: Yes in time that's all.

Marlena begins to cry.

Marlena: Will I? You're just...you're just such a part of my life. I don't know what I'd...I don't know what I'd do if you weren't...
John: Doc, hey come on don't be unhappy. This is the last thing I want.
Marlena: It doesn't make you unhappy at all?
John: I'm past that Doc. I'm free falling with just the idea I'm never going to see you again, I'm never going to hear you laugh, I'm never going to be able to smell your perfume and I'm never going to be able to touch you again.

John touches Marlena's hand.

Marlena: Oh God!

John pulls Marlena towards him and they kiss. They break the kiss. John very forcefully removes Marlena's white coat. John lays her down on the couch and begins to kiss her. John breaks the kiss to take off his jacket. Just as he gets the jacket off Marlena pulls him in for another kiss. In the next seen John is taking of Marlena's suit coat to reveal her camisole. Marlena lowers herself to the couch. They kiss. They break the kiss so John can take off his shirt.

Marlena: What are we doing?
John: What we've been wanting to do for weeks.

Marlena inches towards John for a kiss but he stops her. He pins her arms above her head and he passionately kisses her. John and Marlena continue to kiss and caress each other. Both are enjoying this stolen moment together.

John is holding Marlena in his arms they have only a blanket covering the both of them.

John: I love you.
Marlena: Oh. No you can't love me.
John: I love you . You love me too. We just proved that.
Marlena: I had no right to do this to Roman.
John: We just acted on our feelings.
Marlena: We can't do that. We can talk about hem but we can't act on them. Now I have to face Roman. Oh god this was all my fault.
John: No, No, no it ws my fault. It' wasn't yours.
Marlena: It was. It was. I came here. I came here and I convinced myself that it was just a talk but I know better than that. I know better than that.
John: Look at me. Look at me.
Marlena: I can't. I'm afraid if I do I'll see the love in your eyes...I'll see the passion and I'll be lost and if I do I'll give my heart to you again and that was never mine to give.
John: It was mine once.
Marlena: It's Roamn's now.
John: Doc we closed off our feelings for a long time and whether tonight was right or wrong we couldn't hold back on those feelings any longer. The only question is now that we have opened up our hearts are we ever going to be able to close them?

Marlena and John are getting dressed.

John: We've got to sort out exactly what we're going to do now.
Marlena: We've talked enough. I have to go.
John: Fine then I'll go with you.
Marlena: No No I have to go alone.
John: I can't let you walk out of here like this.
Marlena: This has to be the end of it right here.
John: Do you really think that's possible?
Marlena: Good-bye.

Marlena picks up her coat and rushes off. John goes over to the window and wathces her leave.
