A Love Like This

No, we could not have seen this one coming.
But still it arrived, evoking a mixture of joy, tears and pain.
At first we were taken aback, but then,
in an unforeseen moment, mysteriously beckoned forward.
What is this?
This love that pushes itself into our hearts so insistently,
that set up residence at first like an unwelcome guest,
and then like a very familiar friend.
What is this, this love that has the power to consume us with its
complexity, its pureness, its impassioned insistence.
We were not aware that this love, expressed and unexpressed,
would have such power to captivate us, to embrace our hearts.
We underestimated its steadfastness, its depth; not wanting it to,
but believing that it would, dissipate before our eyes, before it was realized.
It wasn't supposed to "BE", it wasn't supposed to MEAN so much,
but yet here we stand, stopped in our tracks, reassessing our path,
asking how we arrived here, awed by its overwhelming presence,
its persistent and heartwrenching refusal to leave.
We didn't know.
We didn't know.
That it would consume our hearts and our very beings,
we didn't know that once we ventured down its path
there would be no turning back.
It proved to be out of our control, this intense passion, this love.
We were left spinning, engulfed in its incredible whirlwind of emotions,
seeing the inescapable truth of what Stefan and Laura represent...
A true love, a rare love, a love that hurts and binds, that shapes and refines,
a love that will no longer settle for being hidden in the dark
and has been silenced far too long, a love that refuses to be denied
and is moving, FINALLY, towards the light.
We could have only dreamed of...
a love like this.
