Final Decision

by Uno

Part One

Laura Cassadine hung up the phone.

"Everything alright?" asked her husband as he entered the room.

"Fine," she smiled, "...You know what, that's the second time I haven't been able to get through. I hope nothing's wrong," she said.

"I'm sure your mother is perfectly fine," said Stefan, "but, if you'd like..."

"No, no...don't bother sending anyone," she said, "I'm sure she'll contact me soon enough."

"...I can't help but...have my suspicions as to why she's not answering," he said.

"No," said Laura tenderly as she touched his face, "...it has nothing to do with you. She knows that our marriage is based on love, trust..." she kissed him, "and happiness. She just wants me to be happy...and that's why she'll eventually come around...because I am," she smiled.

Stefan kissed his new wife lovingly. "...She had hoped that you and..."

"I know," said Laura, "but I can't cling to the past anymore...I don't want to."

"Nor do I," said Stefan.

They looked at each other knowingly, and felt guilty for a few seconds. The guilt was eased by looking away. The guilt. Something they both hoped would eventually fade forever, but knew would always be there in some small form.

"On the day that I first saw you in town," Stefan continued, "I was confronted with many emotions...fear being the foremost," he said.

"...Why?" asked Laura.

"Because...because seconds afterward, right then and there, I knew that I wouldn't be strong enough, that I wouldn't be able...to fight my feelings for you."

Laura stared at him with a partial smile.

"I knew that you were married to someone else...again...and I didn't know how I was going to live with that," Stefan continued. "Fear was not, at the time an emotion I was used to. So I chose the easy path. I lashed out. I pretended to feel things for you that I didn't. I convinced myself...and Nicholas...that we didn't need you. That we didn't want you. But at the same time, in private...I despised my weakness."

Laura kept listening...with her hands in Stefan's.

"That summer, when you returned to town, and I saw you outside...I got that very same feeling, and I tried repeating the same mistakes...but I couldn't," he said raising his eyes from her hands to her face. "Lasha...among all the harsh words...moments of restraint...moments of passsion, and time spent apart we've endured over the last few years...and our time on the island...one thing has never changed...my love for you."

"Stefan," she said, "I am by no means innocent of any..."

She was interrupted by his kiss. When it ended he spoke again, "Tonight, we put the past behind us, at long last," he said.

Laura smiled.

"Is Leslie Lu asleep?" he asked.

"Yes...she loves it here...but not as much as I do," said Laura.

"Oh?" replied Stefan playfully.

"Yes...because I'm living with the man who loves me more than anyone ever has," she said, "and the feeling is mutual. I love you Stefan. I stood right here and told you the same thing once, and that nothing would change that...and despite what I may have said since...nothing ever did."

"I love you Laura," he said before kissing her.

In their bedroom, Mr. and Mrs. Cassadine undressed before each other. Each taking turns with what little clothing they had on. Each getting more excited with every step of the process. Finally, Laura removed her bra and they were both completly unclothed. Stefan looked at her in disbelief. She was still so beautiful. More beautiful than ever to him at this moment. Truly a Cassadine at last. Truly living with him at last. Truly his wife at last.

They stepped to the side of the bed, which Stefan sat Laura down on before dropping to one knee. He took Laura's right foot in his hand and massaged it gently, before bringing it under his lips. Laura brought her other to stroke his right shoulder, and Stefan briefly suckled her toes, before returning his kiss to her foot. Laura began to get aroused, and couldn't believe the situation herself. To finally have no worries, regrets, or guilt. To finally just have happiness, and the love of her life at her feet, and no applogies for it. She opened her eyes and brought a hand downward to stroke Stefan's brown hair. She soon removed her hold on his shoulder, allowing him to bring his kisses upward. Stefan's lips and tounge met Laura's knees and thighs, as a wetness began to develop in his wife. He finally pleasured her most sensitive spot, as Laura moaned freely and scratched his back. Then he laid her on the bed, seeking to calm the intensity in both of them. Stefan rolled above her, and kissed her stomach. Then his mouth began to cover each of her breasts, one at a time, spending long periods on both as he kissed and suckled. Their hands met after they switched positions and Laura looked down at her husband. She soon brought her hands to rub against his chest, and then his shoulders as she marveled at how well developed he was physically. She kissed his chest over and over, and then her hair tickled it as she brought her mouth to his lower area. Stefan now moaned as Laura worked him over while managing to smile at the same tme. She then released him and lowered her weaving breasts to his member, pressing it to her. At that moment Stefan felt he couldn't endure any longer, but somehow managed to hold on as Laura's face indicated that she couldn't believe her ecstasy. The life of love which she would never be willing to let go of again. She did however let go, temporarily, as she crawled upwards, got in position, and lowered herself on Stefan. Stefan's fingertips came to tickle Laura's bottom, and that was all either of them could take any longer. Laura let out a weak plea of enjoyment as she climaxed on Stefan. Stefan had also reached his limit, and he errupted into Laura, now clutching her soft bottom. Laura's chest soon met Stefan's and they held each other tenderly. Stefan kissed Laura's serious, yet calm face, and even her hair as best he could. They held each other, laying side by side, now under the covers. Stefan was eventually the first to fall asleep, and Laura could read his face. She could tell that he was truly happy, as though he now had all he'd ever really wanted. She smiled, gently brushing his hair with her hand, and felt the same. She was happy, so were the people she loved, and she had a family that wouldn't leave her.

"Mom," she remembered, as the thought of family entered her mind.

She wasn't sure what was going on with Leslie, but she knew she'd find out soon, and let herself fall asleep. For Laura Cassadine, many realizations were on the horrizon.

Part Two

Stefan Cassadine picked up the phone.

"Yes...oh really?" he asked, while scooping up some sand, and then slowly letting it drop.

He, his wife, and Leslie Lu had come to their new summer home in Greece for a week or two. It was even larger than the one in Port Charles, and had a beautiful beach.

"Very good," he continued, "inform me of any further progress in...five days. No sooner. By that time I'll be back in Port Charles. Thank you."

He hung up and watched the waves. "Ah nature...I know of only one thing more beautiful than thee."

Laura slowly opened her eyes. She had been sleeping on the couch inside, while Leslie Lu was enjoying the mini playground in her room. Still wearing her green nightgown, she prepared to pull herself up and locate Stefan when she heard a voice from the near distance:

"I was wondering how long it'd take...thanks for not making me wait."

Laura immediately sprung up and reached for a remote control on the coffee table. She aimed it at the small screen nearby and clicked. An image of Lulu playing in her well lit room soon appeared. After a few seconds, Laura switched off the monitor and dropped the remote. A few more passed before she slowly turned and faced Helena Cassadine.

Far away in America, Leslie Webber is enjoying a night out on the town with a man who's brought her a lot of happiness in the past few months.

"Buzz, let's go on that one next," she says to her date.

"Oh honey...how many of these things do we have to experience tonight?" he replies.

"I warned you," she says, "I haven't been to the carnival in...oh I don't know how long...so I am back with a vengeance baby."

"Heh, heh...oh okay. But this has to be the last one. The kids are starting to stare at us."

"Well so what?" she says. "Do you really care about that?"

"...Alright I'll admit it," he says holding her arms, "maybe, I just want to get you home as soon as possible."

"...Oh really," she smiles.

"Really."

Back in Greece, Helena stands up and speaks: "Is the name Buzz Winfeld familiar to you?"

"What are you doing here?" asks Laura.

"...You answer my question, and I'll answer yours," replies her mother in law.

"No, now what do you want Helena?"

"Oh it will be," says Helena raising her eyebrows. "You can relax...I just came to talk and then I'll be on my way."

Laura laughs a bit, "You just came...to try and annoy us. To try and torture us because you can't accept that it's over. Stefan and I are married," she says holding up her ring, "we're happy, and we're free from you. The day I never thought would come Helena is finally here, and there's nothing you can do about it."

"...Is that so?" says Helena.

"Yes that's so." smiles Laura "You should know this room is being video taped. In Port Charles my sons are being monitored by guards. My daughter's room is being watched right now. There is NOTHING, you can do to ruin my life ever again."

"Yes, you see that's why I'm here Laura...to talk about your life," Helena replied.

"You're boring me," said Laura as she sat back down and spread her legs across the couch, all to let Helena know how confident she was about what she said. "Just leave."

"Oh come now my dear," said Helena as she walked around the couch and playfully clutched one of Laura's feet, "after all...we're family."

Laura looked at her as though she had said something absurd.

Helena pulled up a nearby chair and sat down. "Well don't look so shocked, after all we've been family for a long time now."

Laura raised an eyebrow.

Helena continued, "You see, here-and when I say here I mean in our family, not Greece-we don't believe in the shameless, dollar ninety-nine separations half of America goes through every year called divorces. Not as easily anyway. And we wives certainly don't abandon our status when left widowed. In short Laura, when you become a member of this family-especially in Greece-it is forever. And you became a member of this family a long time ago. When you married my better son."

"I know what you're trying to do," said Laura.

"I am telling you the truth," Helena replied.

"You're trying to..." she laughed a little, "you're trying to make me uncomfortable with my life with Stefan...by throwing the past in my face. That is pathetic."

"I am telling you...the truth." said Helena. "You've known it in your heart for a long time. You never stopped...you have never stopped being a Cassadine. Think back to all those years you would sneak off to call Nicholas, every other birthday. How you tried your best to create a new family in America, but were never able to bury the past. All those moments you were ridden with guilt while washing dishes. All the times you came close to revealing the truth to someone, but didn't. And yes, all the times during those years you thought of your dear love Stefan...all the many times."

"Stop it," said Laura as she began to weaken emotionally under Helena's pressure.

"That's because it was in your blood Laura, as it is now. You can never get rid of it."

"I mean it!"

"Oh...how hypocritical you must have felt," said Helena as one of her arrogant smiles developed, "all those times you verbally bashed-'the Cassadines'-all those times you verbally bashed yourself."

Laura threw an angry stare at Helena.

"You can deny it all you want my dear," said Helena, "but as I said, you've carried it in your heart all these years. Why else would you be getting so upset? Why deny it? I don't. It was your destiny-and mine-from the moment we were each born. Why do you think I have kept my husband's name even after his death? Even after learning he was unfaithful? Because as I said, it is forever. From the time you set foot on that island to the day you married Stavros to the moment you gave birth to a Cassadine-your first born Laura-no matter what surname you have hidden behind since, you have NEVER stopped being who you are today: Laura Cassadine."

Laura suddenly stood up in anger. "Stand up you witch."

Helena hesitated, but brave as ever, stood before Laura.

"Now you will leave, right now," said Laura, "or I promise you..."

"Yes, do your worst Laura. Resort to violence when you're uncomfortable, or when you can't face the truth-it's the American spirit. Now THAT, my dear, is what you call pathetic," said Helena. "Were I thirty years younger perhaps I could engage you, but now I can do little more than hope someone comes along. But first indulge me. Tell me what I already know. Admit that you are as much Cassadine as I am, and have always been."

Laura's face of anger slowly calmed, and her eyes met the floor.

"You won't make a very strong queen of this family, if you can't even face your own emotions," said Helena. "I want to hear it, just say it, and then I shall go."

Laura kept looking downward.

"Say it, Laura," said Helena, "share with me what you hid in your heart all those years. Say it."

Laura closed her eyes.

"Say it," said Helena as she grasped Laura's chin and directed her face upward.

Laura slowly opened her eyes. After a brief pause, she spoke, "...Yes Helena. I am a Cassadine, and it does feel as though I was born to be one."

Helena grinned.

"But I have not..." Laura said as she yanked away her chin, "always been one, nor will I ever be one like you."

Helena's arrogance faded from her face.

"My love for my husband, is what has brought me in to this family, but I was never here before that. I, and Stefan, and Nicholas, and Alexis...Natasha, and maybe even my daughter...we represent the beginning of a new generation of Cassadines." said Laura. "One that will break away from the crimes of the past. One that will break away from the reputation brought on by others. One that will break away from YOU, Helena," said Laura.

Helena looked on, too stunned to speak.

"...One that will restore nobility to this family," said Laura. "...And if what I'm saying will truly come to pass, and I am a part of it, then I will gladly, proudly declare my name to the world."

Helena stood her ground, trying her best to look confident and arrogant again.

"And just for the record Helena," said Laura, "here it's Lasha Cassadine. You of all people should get it right. After all...we're family. Now GET OUT."

Helena stood before Laura for a few more seconds, then turned, picked up her purse, and headed for the door. Before she exited, she turned back and spoke again, "Oh Lasha...if only you knew what lied ahead, I wonder how confident you'd be of that."

Laura rolled her eyes.

Helena exited.

A minute later, the guard Laura summoned appeared in the doorway.

"The woman who just left, I want to be informed when she is off the grounds, and she is not to be allowed in again," said Laura.

"Yes Your Highness," said the guard before exiting.

Minutes later, Laura was at ease, and walked down the hallway to play with her daughter.

Later on, Laura walked out on the beach completely naked and with her hair bundled up, to be with her husband. Stefan had fallen asleep on his towel. Laura knelt by the side of his head. She watched the waves, thinking of how beautiful they were, and then looked at Stefan and smiled. She unbuttoned his shirt, and Stefan slowly woke up.

"...My, my," he said slowly.

"What were you dreaming of?" she asked smiling.

"...It's not a dream anymore," he said as he began removing the rest of his clothing.

Part Three

Lasha, current "Queen" of the Cassadine empire and family, felt a gentle breeze as she stood on the front porch. She watched the swaying palm trees in the distance, as her braided hair and white gown lifted in to the air...and then dropped. She looked up at the sky, and could tell a storm was coming. Then her eyes met his, as he approached from the side of their yard, and she smiled.

Unable to resist any longer, her husband Stefan walked up...and gave her a kiss more passionate than any before. They said nothing afterwards, as their bodies did all the talking. They soon stepped inside, closed the door, and walked upstairs.

Unclothed and with an aura of tenderness, they passionately made love for a long time, in several positions, with total silence except for the moans and shouts of satisfaction, as Laura finally abandoned all doubt about her happiness with Stefan. As they lay side by side afterwards, Laura rubbed her husband's well developed chest, with an inquiring look on her face that soon became a closed eyed smile. Stefan soon moved downward and nuzzled his face against her large breasts, finally sure she would be his always as he closed his own eyes. For each of them, the third time truly felt like the charm.

Upon her awakening, Laura found a note from Stefan. He had left home to attend to some business in town, and would be back soon. Laura put on her gown, bundled up her hair, and eventually made her way to the parapet. She found she could never lean on the railing without testing it first. After a few minutes of fresh air and uncomfortable memories, rain began to fall from the night sky. The gentle rhythm grew a bit louder, as a flash appeared and thunder growled. Laura remained still, bravely enduring...as nature began taking its' course again.

Soon she heard a familiar voice from behind.
"You probably wouldn't believe me if I said I didn't plan the storm."

Laura closed her eyes, and soon rubbed her wet face before turning towards her mother-in-law, Helena.

"...How long will you keep this up? Huh? You're not only wasting our time and ruining our lives, you're doing the same thing to yourself. What is it you want, Helena?" asked Laura.

"I agree," said Helena as she walked out on the parapet and faced the sky beside Laura, "but as I said in Greece, we're family...and we Cassadine women have to look out for one another, it's part of the rules of conduct."

Laura looked at Helena from the side, staring briefly at the brown envelope she held, and eventually turned back toward the sky herself. "...If I ask what you mean by that will you go...and I mean forever?" she said.

"Oh yes," she replied, "but always remember what I said before my dear. You will never, be able to break your ties to this family. Regardless of whether I like that or not."

"What are you talking about?" asked Laura as she turned her head. "Helena I am married to Stefan."

Helena continued staring forward, opening her mouth for a second.

"...Oh don't tell me," said Laura, "you're going to produce some form...some evidence you've conjured up that says Stefan and I weren't legally married. Grow up Helena."

Helena turned her entire body to face Laura, and her daughter-in-law responded by doing the same. Helena then handed her the envelope. After opening it, Laura pulled out pictures of her mother, spending time on the street with a man about her age.

"This, is Buzz Winfeld, the man I told you about in Greece. The man who has been charming your mother for the past few months," said Helena.

Laura lowered the pictures and revealed a look that spoke for itself.

"You can relax," said Helena, "I'm not the one who had those pictures taken. If you look at the writing on the back I think you'll recognize it."

Laura reluctantly turned the pictures around, and saw the date and place in Stefan's handwriting.

"...Why, why would...I don't understand," said Laura.

"Why would Stefan have pictures of your mother and her new boyfriend taken? Because he brought them together of course," said Helena.

Laura looked puzzled.

"Mr. Winfeld has worked for a subsidiary of the family's for years now. But Stefan needed someone to seduce your mother, so now he has a new job," Helena continued. "The thing is, I think he truly has fallen for her. Ah well...no concern of mine."

"But why?" asked Laura. "Why would Stefan do this?"

"Well you'll have to ask your husband that Lasha," Helena smiled. "...However...my guess might be that it was something of an extreme measure...to guard against your leaving him again. One of many I'm afraid. You see if your mother has a life of her own again, then you can't very well run up to her house whenever you and Stefan have that momentous argument. Then at this point, you can't exactly run back to your old house either."

"...What do you mean?" asked Laura as she began to feel uncomfortable.

"...Haven't you heard?" said Helena, "A little vacant house on Charles street is about to become someone else's home."

Laura gathered her emotions, "That has nothing, to do, with Stefan," she said.

"Sure it doesn't. Believe what you want my dear. And now...I shall be on my way-for good Lasha, and I mean it this time."

Laura looked on in silence.

"...We shall never meet again," said Helena.

Loud thunder crashed in the rainy night, as a bright bolt seemed to flash directly between the two women in the distance.

"Nor shall I make any further contact, whether it be direct or indirect, with your loved ones from this day on," she continued. "I have given you the truth yet again, and now I will leave you and Stefan to work out your marriage on your own."

Laura looked at Helena, too stunned to speak or show much reaction to what she was saying.

Helena then pulled something from her pocket, and revealed the Cassadine medallion. She glanced at Laura, and then slowly stepped up to her and put it around her neck, even adjusting her hair afterwards. "The decision you make today will determine your future."

Laura had simply remained still, remembering the final words between she and Helena in Greece.

"Goodbye Lasha," said Helena.

After another flash and loud burst of thunder, Helena had exited. Laura turned back toward the sky and looked worried and confused.

Outside downstairs, a limousine escorting Nikolas Cassadine comes up the circular driveway and arrives right next to Helena's. The Cassadine "Prince" steps out in to the rain, and steadily approaches the house. He stops when he sees a familiar figure approaching.

"Grandmother? What's going on?" says Nikolas.

Helena doesn't stop walking or looking forward as she passes him and strokes his face.

Thunder crashes again and Nikolas stands getting wet. "Grandmother!" he says a few seconds later, as he chases after her.

"Laura," says Alexis as the wife of Stefan Cassadine reaches the bottom of the stairs inside.

"Alexis," says Laura after turning.

"I think I smell Helena's perfume," says Alexis, "you may want to be ready-you know her," she continues, rolling her eyes.

"Yes she's, come and gone," says Laura.

"...Everything alright?"

"...No actually," says Laura with a hint of spunk and attitude. "I think Stefan may be keeping things from me again."

"Oh...oh I..."

"...What?" says Laura. Her eyes fall to the envelope
Alexis is holding. "What's that you're holding, Alexis?"

"This is just, something for Stefan actually..."

"Then I'm sure he won't mind if I take a look," said Laura as she quickly took the envelope, "...after all I am his wife."

"Laura, wait..." said Alexis.

"...I'm sorry," said Laura, "I just...I just need to put this feeling to rest right now."

Alexis stared at the floor and made a face for a few seconds.

Laura opened the envelope and pulled out papers indicating the terms of she and Stefan's joint account.

After about a minute, she voiced her findings, "...It says here...that if I sign this...then in the event of our divorce or separation Stefan receives complete control of...I'd have nothing to my name."

"It was something he asked me to put in for...I don't know, so that he could feel he was still providing for you if that ever were to happen-and he doesn't think that it will," said Alexis.

Laura looked up, "...Or so I couldn't just leave him."

"You're jumping to conclusions Laura," said Alexis, "you know what, you should let Stefan explain it to you...and probably before you sign that."

"Mrs. Cassadine," said a servant as he entered, "two of our guards have been knocked out, and...I'm sorry to say I can't find your daughter anywhere."

"What?" said Laura and Alexis rather loudly.

"Whoever did it was really fast," he continued, "I don't even know how he made it in, but we did find..."

"Wait a minute, it's okay," Laura sighed rubbing her eyes. "This is his day to pick up Lulu...I just forgot to inform the guards, oh how could I have been so stupid?"

"What do you mean Laura?" asked Alexis.

"...We did find this by the two guards," said the man.

Alexis recognized the black glove he held up. "...Oh," she said, "so it was him."

"What's going on here?" asked a wet Nikolas from the door.

"Nikolas," said Laura after she turned to face her son, "why are you...how long have you been out there?"

"Never mind I just, I just came to see all of you, to ask about the trip," he said.

Suddenly the phone rang. Laura walked over and picked it up. "...Yes...yes this is his wife," she could be heard saying.

"Mrs. Cassadine, I'm calling to let your husband know that the house on Charles street has been sold. The family moving in appreciates your husband's generous offer for it."

"...What did you say?" asked Laura.

The man repeated himself and mentioned a familiar address as Laura listened on.

After she hung up, it took her a little while to answer the questions being flung at her. "Stefan...made sure that me and Lulu's old house was sold."

"...Laura," said a voice from the doorway opposite of the one Nikolas had used.

Everyone turned and saw Stefan standing.

"...You know what, I think all of us should leave," said Alexis to the two guys standing next to her.

"Uh, yes...someone's waiting for me to get home anyway," said Nikolas, "and I sure don't want to keep her waiting."

"Me either with my man," smiled Alexis.

They all exited behind Stefan. Nikolas was the last, and patted Stefan's shoulder as he passed.

Thunder clapped again as Stefan and Laura were left alone.

He spoke first, "Laura I..."

"What are you doing?" she asked. "What is all of this?" she said holding up the pictures and the paper.

"Where, where did you get those pictures?" he frowned.

"Your dear mother brought them to me," Laura sighed. "I suppose she got them from a secret box you keep somewhere in town?"

Stefan frowned at the floor.

"You see...secrets...that's what we're all about...that's what we ARE, or that's what we were...at least, I thought it was what we WERE. As in past tense. I thought we were beyond secrets at this point," she said.

"We are Lasha, we are," he replied softly.

"No...no we're not. You've been, planning things out since we got married haven't you? Plans...to keep me from leaving you."

"When you put it like that..."

"I'm putting it the way it is...aren't I?" she asked. "It's all becoming clear now. I wasn't able to contact my mom for awhile because she was out with the man you sent in to her life...all in an effort to keep me from running to her if we were to separate."

"Your mother IS happy, and the man is safe..."

"And you had Alexis fire up this agreement I found on her, that gives you all the money if we go our separate ways."

"You know I wouldn't go along with that...I'd NEVER leave you in a position like that...I'd just want you to...have time to consider..."

"What about the phone call just now?" she said. "You made sure someone moved in to my old house so that I couldn't go back there if we grew apart."

"Again, in the event that that happened I'd just want you to take all the time you needed HERE, at home...even if it was in the guest house," said Stefan.

"And when were you going to tell me about all of this?!" she yelled.

Thunder crashed again.

"...Laura..."

"Oh Stefan...I really thought that this-was-it...no more secrets. I convinced myself. I believed it."

"When, when was Helena here?" he asked angrily.

"No," she said, "...don't make this about Helena. We are not blaming her...not this time."

Stefan looked on and soon held his head with one hand while resting his eyes.

"This is about you, and me," said Laura, "because I am not your secret lover, Stefan Cassadine...or your romantic interest..."

Stefan was looking at her now.

"...I am your wife."

There was silence.

She continued, "We finally did it, we got married. The day no one thought would come, including us, DID. You had your accident, and I was there for you in the hospital-stopping in on my breaks, coming to see you and Nikolas here, redeveloping a friendship I thought was gone forever."

Stefan partially smiled at her.

"...And then...and then we both decided we didn't want to be alone, or in pain anymore, and we followed our hearts again and arrived here for the third time," she continued. "...They say the third time's the charm...and I really had reasons to believe them, Stefan...but then you go and do this...all out of paranoia. You didn't truly give us a chance again." She frowned, "But I know, you may have your reasons...but still...now all of this feels like a lie."

"Laura...Lasha..." he said

She kept looking at him with sorrow.

"Everything I did...everything I do that concerns you...is out of love. You have to believe that," he said. "I did it so I could keep you, and that beautiful little girl, and whatever our future may hold...here. With me."

Laura's eyes slowly met the floor.

"You have to believe me," he said.

"...I just wanted to believe in you Stefan," she replied.

Thunder brewed softly, as the storm apparently settled down.

Stefan's eyes were also facing the floor now.

Laura spoke again, "We're playing ourselves. We've been trying this for so long now...and it never works out." She walked over and removed the medallion resting on her breasts, and placed it around Stefan's neck. She then took Stefan's hands. "No matter what our hearts may say, our minds know the truth. It's just...maybe it's just too late for us...maybe the final decision has to be this: We can't love each other...because we can't trust each other."

Tears rolled down both adults eyes, as they continued holding hands, and looked away.

One month later, Laura and Lulu were in the process of moving out of Amy's home, and in to their own apartment. Laura had learned that her mother had broken up with Buzz, and was alone again, although more eager to find a man than she had been in years now.

"And what about your own love like?" asked Amy. "I mean, if he was still working at the hospital and hadn't stepped down suddenly...bet that would make things difficult huh?"

Laura grinned to herself.

"Look Laura you're going to be okay...so is he. You both just need time to heal," said Amy.

Laura looked up at her sister, "I'm healing from a case of true love itself Amy," she said, "one never makes a total recovery from that."
