July 5th, 1996 (This scene was aired on July 8th, but it was supposed to be the 5th)
Spoon Island
Docks
Laura stepped off the docks, she was on Spoon Island. It was dark, creepy, exactly the way they’d want it to be. Who was it that had called her? It didn’t matter, whoever it was, was trying to scare the hell out of her and damn well succeeded. She nearly collapsed when he called her Lasha, using that name like she was supposed to just accept it!
Laura was so tense, she stood as an angel. Beautiful. Her hair fluffy and blonde, her eyes blue, dark and alert. Her hands were clenched in fear, but she would do anything for Lesley Lu. Even this.
“I’m here!” she called, angry. “You told me to come and I came!” she yelled into the foggy distance of the docks, the lake, and the staircase. “It’s not fair!” she said about Lesley Lu’s life.
Laura didn’t see the man come forward at the top of the stairs, looking down on her with hatred, glad to see her tense and afraid. She turned around and turned to ice. She couldn’t see him. She couldn’t see who it was. She timidly called out Stavros’s name. She couldn’t see anything other than a man’s body and from the way he spoke to her on the phone she was so terrified she didn’t know what the hell to think.
“Lasha, you call me by your husband’s name, I’ll call you by his name for you.”
Then she saw his face. Relief poured over her.
“I should’ve known,” she said happily.
God, she hadn’t seen him in so long of course he would be the one to help her when she called.
“Because you think of me so often and so fondly,” he mocked as he slowly came down the stairs.
Immediately she saw he was different. She was immediately terrified again by his presence but told herself that this was Stefan…Stefan, he was the one she…
“What do you mean you shown have known?”
He was now in front of her now, one step higher than her. She wanted to back away, she was frightened. This was all too fast, she’d had to block him out of her mind because if she thought of him she’d…
“For a moment in the dark…I thought…but you’re nothing like him,” she laughed a little uncomfortable.
“No,” he replied with hateful, startling eyes. “He loved you,” he said to her.
Laura was a little stunned but ignored the comment, thinking of her daughter.
“I take it you know what my daughter needs,” Laura said, trying to stay calm.
“Do you miss him so much Lasha?” he said to her, knowing it would hurt her. “Are there other nights you see him standing before you?”
“Stefan please don’t do this,” she whispered with shivering lips.
“You wish he were now,” he pushed.
“NO!” Laura said unable to control her hatred for Stavros. Then she refrained. “Your brother can’t help me now. Whatever you thought of me then…” her face began to crumble in tears. “Whatever it is that you think of me now I…I’m very grateful that you’re here,” she said trying to show how much she was thanking him.
Stefan was unaffected and his face was filled with contempt and loathing.
Laura tried to change the subject back to her daughter.
“I’ve been trying to reach Helena,” she said softly.
“Yes,” Stefan said obviously knowing the entire time. “Another woman, another mother.”
Laura immediately grew fearful. “Please…I need her to know that I would never, ever have broken my promise to her…but now I-does she know that my baby is sick?”
“You’re family Lasha,” he said casually. “We care for you.”
        “Did she send you here?”
“Send me?” Stefan said like she’d lost her mind. “Send me?” Helena never confided in him and he never listened to her anyway.
Laura forced a laugh at the memory of Stefan and Helena’s relationship. As if Helena would ever tell Stefan to meet her.
“I mean…did she ask you to come?” she was trying to figure out what Helena knew.
“My mother helped you once and what did it cost her?” Stefan said. “You think she’d be inclined to help you again,” he tested.
“No,” Laura said in a tiny little girl voice. “Hardly…but…you have the power now don’t you?” Laura’s face filled with relief. “And you came to me. I’m very grateful to you,” she said intensely.
He sighed, amazed at how naďve she was. “You haven’t changed. You still think of me as the gullible one,” he said and began to walk back up the stairs.
“No! No that’s not true!” Laura said stopping him. “No I think of you as someone else! Someone who knows what it feels like to serve at their WHIM!”
He came back down, her hands so tense, her body in a clenched position, which Stefan Cassadine noticed and enjoyed.
“These aren’t the old days,” he said tauntingly, looking at her too intensely as if sucking away every secret of her mind.
Laura licked her lips, about to break the promise and her heart by speaking these words.
“How is he,” she said with her own being starting to split in half.
“Who,” Stefan asked softly, as if he didn’t know.
“Is he with you,” she said desperately. “Can I see him please?” she sobbed.
Stefan looked at her like she was insane and Laura knew he wasn’t going to answer. She threw her hands up defeated.
“The test for a donor compatibility is a very simple one! But it must be done…right now. Will you bring him to me?”
“Bring him to you,” Stefan said, answering no in his voice to drive her up the wall.
Laura sighed, trying to make it work. “Or it can be done anywhere else-anywhere you like, I’ll arrange for it.”
Stefan nodded, “I’m sure you can,” still telling her no in his voice.
She’d had enough. “Stefan!” she said desperately. “Please, do you understand that you hold my daughter’s life in your hands?”
“As you help my brother’s in yours,” he said with a fake smile. “I think so,” he said with large, vengeful eyes.
Laura couldn’t believe he’d say that. “No,” she said confused herself. “I-you’re better than this,” she said amazed he would act this way. “You’re…”
“Yes…tell me Lasha,” he said teasing her. “How much worthier I am than Stavros and the rest. Used to work on occasion,” he said deliberately.
Laura wasn’t taking any crap. How dare he say that to her, as if he was any sort of INNOCENT! She turned away. “Then why did you make me COME HERE! What do you want?!? What do you want from ME? Do you wanna make me beg? FINE! I will beg,” she said as passionate as he’d ever seen her, as fierce and determined yet frightened. “You want me to KNEEL!” she said pointing to the floor. “Do you wanna see me CRY?!?” she lashed out at him.
Stefan laughed. “What makes you think I would give a damn for your tears,” he said moving towards her, terrifying her. Laura breathed hard from anger, frustration, and her own hatred. “You killed my brother,” he said. “You destroyed my people. The Cassadines owe you nothing.”
Stefan began to walk up the stairs again and she ran after him, to stop him. This was Lesley Lu’s LIFE! Not time for her own hurt feelings.
“You know Helena would’ve said anything! Anything!”
“Then what did,” Stefan said, turning around. Asking her what killed his brother if she didn’t.
“His own obsession,” Laura hissed. “You know how he was about anything he laid claim to!”
“Why wouldn’t he think he had a right to claim his own wife?”
Laura could’ve laughed. “I was never his wife! Except in his own mind, in his own sick, make believe world! I was married to someone else!”
“More than in his mind I think or else you wouldn’t be here right now,” Stefan reminded her.
“He…kidnapped me!” she hated Stavros so much she could barely say the words. “He made me believe that my husband was DEAD! And that I had NOTHING to go back to. You KNOW this! Why are you doing this to me?!? You’re acting as if…he was MY victim!”
“Remember me,” Stefan recited. “The power does not die with me.”
Laura was lost in fear of the memory of those words. Stavros dying, 1983, in the hospital after he’d tried to rape her and shoot her. Laura’s mouth fell open a little, never feeling more taken over in her life, more enclosed in a trap of pain.
“It will go on,” Stavros taunted her sixteen years ago, she heard Stefan saying the words to her now as she remembered Stavros. “You will feel my rage…” Laura heard both voices in her mind.
When Stefan was done tearing her heart out, she looked up at him.
“How can you know that…” she asked. “Nobody else was there,” she said like a child.
Stefan looked down at her, the way he did stopped her in time and she finally understood his newfound hatred for her. How far he would go to punish her.
“Do you begin to feel it now, Lasha?”
Laura couldn’t even reply at first…she was frozen looking at the man whom she had trusted every piece of herself with, and now he was looking at her like she was some virus, some foreign thing to torture for no other reason than boredom. She was worthless but absolutely the devil.
“How can you know that…nobody else was there,” she cried. “Luke and I were the only ones in that room…when Stavros died.”
“There was another witness,” he replied flatly.
        “You?” she said amazed. “How?”
“And the words he left you with…became my inheritance too. I guarded them like you, I heard them in my sleep like you. And I watched…every step you took,” he said coming down the stairs once again, moving past her slowly, to make her afraid. “I took with you. Your travels, your separation from Luke. I was very close to you then…and I waited. Lucky’s gambling,” he told her.
Laura became unnerved that he knew all of this, and the way he was looking at her. She nearly turned her head, she couldn’t face him like this. Scaring her like this.
“Your daughter’s close call in the Ward house fire. I prayed along side your family you’d be found innocent of your latest murder.” His eyes widened and turned more frightening. “You have prior crimes to answer for.”
        Now she finally understood.
“All right,” she said, now unafraid. “You hate me now,” she said matter of factly. “I guess…the chance to see me suffer is the only reason you have for living,” she nearly smiled at what a coward he was. “Your greatest pleasure from your new IMPERIAL seat is having ME watched!!!”
He was impressed with her passion, how he was pushing her buttons to make her react so strongly. He wanted her to play the game back, he dared her.
“And this is how you’ll take revenge,” she said making him lesser, making him smaller. “On a child,” she mocked.
“If you like I can leave,” Stefan said casually. “If my company is so distasteful.” He looked up at her. “And you’ll never see me again,” he walked past her.
Laura grabbed his arm harshly and turned him around to face her. She hadn’t touched him in sixteen years and she was every bit as forceful and as passionate as ever. It intrigued him.
“No! No, please. These aren’t the old days when you were standing in your brother’s shoes. You have the power now! And you can do what’s right.”
Come on, big man, she thought to herself. Really prove this one to me.
“I am making decisions now, and I will do what I think is right,” he replied.
“Thank you,” Laura said not kindly, relieved, but recovering from her own anger.
“To avenge my brother’s death,” he said quickly enough to immediately diminish her hopes.
She wasn’t overtaken by his attempts to destroy her. “So you’ve…slipped into your brother’s shoes,” she said. Now it was her turn to taunt him, to know him! “But they don’t quite fit do they? Cruelty doesn’t come naturally to you,” she said.
“I’ve changed,” he said but she wasn’t buying any of his bullshit.
“You wanna avenge Stavros’s death,” she asked him disbelievingly. He didn’t answer so she played the game. “Stavros would never have done this to me,” she said coolly.
“Well he may have been dazzled by you, but I never was,” Stefan replied too casually.
“Think back,” Laura replied instantly, with a deep, seductive voice.
“To what,” he said in the same voice she’d used.
She widened her eyes at him. “You know what.”
He looked her up and down just barely, she was unraveling his hatred and bringing back the memories momentarily. Laura leaned in closer to him, taunting him back.
“You couldn’t have changed that much,” she said almost in a whisper.
Stefan looked slightly nervous. “Why not, you have.”
“Please,” Laura whispered softly. “My daughter will die without your help, please.”
“Did I say I wouldn’t grant your request,” he said, as if he’d intended to all along.
As he began to walk up the steps off the docks she called after him, “Then you’ll let me see him? Where is he?”
He turned back, looking down on her from the stairs. “Did I say I would?”
Fury overcame Laura and she ran after him, grabbing his arm, turning him back around to face her.
        “Oh don’t you dare!”
She caught him by surprise. She threw her purse to the ground and ripped her sweater off. Before he could even think she pushed him down, knocking him up against the stairs. She tore at his buttons as the tears slipped from her eyes and she began to shake from fear and pain.
“You wanna avenge Stavros’s death, fine! You know how he would make me pay, so why don’t you do it, because I will do anything for my daughter!”
She wasn’t getting very far because the tears that blurred her eyes to the point she couldn’t see. She kept talking though, kept offering herself to him. If this is the game he wants, this will be it to punish her for Stavros. Stefan ripped her hands from him and knocked her up against the railing of the staircase. She cried out in pain for a second as her head hit the bars, but then looked straight at Stefan.
“I’ve already lost one child, I’m not going to lose another…” she shivered in her guilt and tears. “I’m not going to watch that happen so you tell me what you want! I gave you the perfect way to avenge Stavros’s death, you could just take me right here as a way to save my daughter’s life. That’s what he did and you know it! Only it was my life then!”
Laura ripped her hands free of Stefan’s. “Well I don’t care about my life now and I don’t care what I have to do! You can be damn sure I won’t swallow it like I would a piece of candy but I will endure anything if you give me a way to have my child survive! Even if I hate it, even if I hate you or myself I will do it. And I hate what I’m asking because of him! How dare I ask this! But…I can’t watch her grow paler and paler and know that the more blood I give her the harder it will be for her to EVER make any of her own to survive! And know that her body is killing itself and she’s just a baby! I can’t lose another baby.”
Stefan gripped her throat harshly so that she had to gasp for air.
“You cry the tears now,” he whispered with hatred. “How many tears have you cried for him for every year you’ve gone, Lasha? Gone by choice. How often do you wonder if he wonders why the hell his mother decided to leave one day, leave and murder his father. Do you think about his tears, did you care what you did to him?”
She looked into Stefan’s eyes, her hand over the hand holding her throat.
“Well if you watched me as closely as you seem to, then you know exactly how many tears I’ve cried. I’m sure you had someone watching me.”
She knew he knew the tears she cried. She knew he knew how hard she tried to get her son back, the reminders every year from Helena no matter where she was in the world, the most precious life in the world taken from her, and then it was her own fault. Stefan knew, Stefan hated her now, but he knew. But fine, Laura may be trembling, but she let him play his game of pain, of torture, she would let him do anything. And she knew him well enough to know eventually he would…do anything.
Stefan continued to taunt her and she was no longer confused. She remembered everything from back then but how quickly in one flash of seeing him was he everything he wasn’t then. He taunted her like Stavros…but she wasn’t afraid in the same way. As afraid, yes, but not the same way.
“Oh come on, Stefan,” Laura taunted back, not even thinking of if there would be consequences. “You remember, you remember the day you found me unconscious in my room…you were kind to me then, but that’s your fantasy now, isn’t it? Do to me exactly what he did. See my lying on the floor, my hair drenched in blood and rape. You have every right to punish me, of course. I deserted the island and left the most precious thing in the world behind. Of course I did on purpose, I never loved him, I cared for him as much as Helena cared for me. Nothing,” she said sarcastically with her own hatred of herself and him, for doing this to do her and loving it.
“There was a reason that night Stavros did everything imaginable to me, that my baby survived. And you know there was very little Stavros didn’t do to me that night. But of course, I betrayed Stavros. I left him and went back to my husband. When of course I should’ve stayed, thought of my husband’s life as inconvenience and though I had two husbands, I should go to the garden, the caves, the coast and be perfectly pure and innocent.”
Her hatred took over her fear momentarily.
“And yes, Stavros died. He was raping me in front of Luke, prepared of course to kill Luke for my mistake of seeing him when I said ‘Take me back’. I was more than willing to come back with Stavros, I begged him to take me and go. It wasn’t fair to punish anyone else because I had to see my husband and my mother. Stavros had to prove to me of course once again where I stood. Luke and I came up with a plan. So I kissed Stavros, and pulled him on top of me so that Luke could knock him out. Stavros finally rolled off of me and I ran, we ran! Luke covered me with my coat, protected me.”
She knew her words were harming Stefan, he looked straight at her, though he tried to hide it she could see the curiosity, and she saw an affect.
“As Luke was about to take me to the hospital, a shot rang out. Luke threw me behind him so the bullets would hit him and not me. We dodged the bullets Stavros shot as he tormented me…and then he fell down the stairs just before he had the perfect aim at me. He broke his neck, and lived long enough to say the words you were right there to hear.” Laura whispered this to him, mysteriously, hatefully, slowly. “I betrayed Stavros Cassadine. I betrayed him with Luke…but he wasn’t the only one, was he?”
Laura all of a sudden truly realized what was happening. Stefan was here, in front of her after so many years. The Cassadines had control over her again, she would give it for the life of her child, but the price would be her life. Maybe not physically, but they would take what…her marriage, her other children? What? She would fight to keep what she loved but would give them her soul and anything else if they let her daughter live. Stefan was here, but…where was he! Could she see him now? Would she have the right? Where was Helena? Would Helena kill her if she went and saw him? If she broke her promise?
Laura, having to come to grips with the Cassadines in her life made her feel like that child she was on the island. Stefan saw her courage and her passion come undone and the tears slipped. One of the tears fell on his hand, the hand holding her neck, and Laura immediately wiped it off of him, knowing he wouldn’t want her to cry on him. She didn’t cry on him anymore. He hated her.
Stefan’s eyes tried not to soften and let her know this had nothing to do with Stavros. This had nothing to do with her destroying members of his family. She looked so beautiful, how did she do that? Her hair glowed in the moonlight like the angel he always saw. Her glass eyes full of the pain he knew was real. Her lips were shaking from tears and her thick lashes had beads of moisture resting on them.
Stefan pulled her mouth and the rest of her to him for a very hard kiss she didn’t know was coming. She yelped in surprise, from the tears she was still crying, and from the charge inside her. Charge of a hundred different things, of questions, of fear, of memories. He forced her lips apart brutally with his tongue, suckled intensely on her lower lip before flicking his tongue lightly in her mouth to draw her close.
Laura sobbed in her tears, and felt him forcefully holding her face in one hand while using the other to grip her back and pull her over him as he lied back on the stairs. She moaned in question as he moved her, she wondered what he was doing, what the outcome or goal of this was. But it didn’t matter.
Stefan placed her over him, her legs on each side of his, her feet on a lower step. Stefan held the back of her head to keep her from breaking the kiss. Her body didn’t quite touch his but they still felt the molecules flow from one another. Laura’s hands were on the stairs on each side of him to support her position as she let him kiss her. She felt one of his hands slide from her neck down inch by inch to her breasts. Through the material of her dress her cupped them and felt them, teasing them. She opened her mouth automatically, giving him more access to her.
He took a handful of her hair, slowly pulling on it so she was forced to tilt her head back and he placed kisses on her neck. She felt him about to peel the front of her dress down so he could touch her breasts more easily but his hand left and she then felt it slip under her dress. The dress was getting in his way but he managed to feel his way down her calf and then slowly trace up. He hadn’t touched her skin in sixteen years. Laura’s eyes looked straight up the staircase, she saw the nightlights as he kissed her neck and stroked her legs, from her lower calf to her inner thigh. He felt the smooth skin of her flexed leg. She was still half standing on the stairs though she was leaning over him.
Laura didn’t know what to think, she chose not to think, it would scare her if she did. She suddenly felt his hand slip beneath her underwear and brutally touch her. Laura cried out in surprise, the cry sounded startled and almost painful. He brought her mouth back to his, crushing her lips and nibbling ruthlessly on them. His fingers dominated her most sensitive area, torturing her, forcing her to rock the more demanding his fingers became.
This was anything but gentle, and Stefan forced Laura’s head away again so he could trail kisses from her neck to her chest, where he nipped the swell of her breasts. Laura exhaled a moan and he was sure he didn’t really hear it. He was still touching her, forcing arousal up within her with every touch more brutal than the last.
“S-stop…” she whispered so softly he barely heard.
Laura pulled her head up so she was looking at him, she was getting weaker and closer to release as she looked at him. He saw the fear in her eyes.
“You hate me now,” she said with chattering teeth.
She closed her eyes slowly, licking her bruised lips and still moved with him. Her face was covered in pain. He was the one who had saved her, not hurt her.
“Stop, you hate me, stop…” she said trying to move, not thinking about this being her daughter’s life.
Stefan pushed her off of him so quickly she screamed. He went with her and threw her back against the railing again. She was breathing heavily from fear of what he would do. And she also tried to comprehend where she was, who he was, and what the hell he was doing. Her eyes were large.
He cupped the left side of her face. When he did that she let go of a little bit of her fear. He gently leaned down and kissed her lips, combing her hair with his fingers. Now she was even more afraid, now he was imitating her memories a bit more and that was almost dangerous. She couldn’t quite read his eyes, he was completely different. He cupped her face with both hands now and kissed her lips very slowly, still very deeply. She responded a little bit. He tasted her fear and her guilt. He stroked his tongue with hers, gripping her lower lip between his teeth, running his tongue smoothly along the edge, ending the kiss with a nip.
“Tell me you remember,” he whispered as he tugged her earlobe a little with his teeth.
His hands were firmly caressing her arms and her torso. What the HELL kind of question is that, Laura thought. She conveniently forgot the men she’d been with? Even if she’d had to shut it out of her mind and not think about it, he assumed she just forgot? When she was about to answer he covered her mouth again and she spoke into his kiss for a second until she realized he was blocking her.
She felt his hands on her breasts again, unbuttoning her dress. She tried to break the kiss by moving her head a little, but he followed her, enveloping her mouth the more she struggled. She stopped struggling and kissed him back. She had a hard time remembering where she was or what she was doing or even who he was. She hadn’t touched him in so long and now it was as if he was the one making her a prisoner. But she was flooded with the memories of their passion. Laura could feel the smooth flames lick through her.
Stefan had opened the dress to expose her breasts in a thin white bra and his hands reached to grasp her sides and pull her body against his. He kissed her harder now, she couldn’t have been the aggressive one if she tried. Her hands went to his arms as he held her upper waist. He held her against him and she felt completely in his control. She felt overcome with feelings and questions instead of quite so much fear. She felt his desire and because of his passion, she felt hers.
“Tell me,” he demanded against her lips.
Laura nodded, afraid, defeated, and in passion. “I remember everything,” she whispered.
His hands trailed from her sides to her chest where he peeled the cups of her bra and cupped her bare breasts in his hands, running his thumbs over her sensitive nipples.
“Stefan-“ she said about to tell him something but he cut her off.
He pulled her from the railing and laid her against the stairs. She was dizzy now with the fact that she’d only seen him again a few minutes ago and now she didn’t know what she was doing…whatever he did she allowed, he guided her, he swept her into this world of drowning into a place without logical thinking. With demanding lips he gave her no choice but to respond, participate in this moment that had not been experienced in over fifteen years. His lips moved over hers like hot silk, teasing her mouth until she opened it, allowing him to take complete control. He swept her into the world of only feelings, teasing her lips so hard that they ached, she had to come up for her. His hands clenched in her hair, preventing it. He heard her moan, begging him to let her breathe, which only made him kiss her more, he demanded it, his hands in her hair and on her face. He took one hand to her neck to left her head up, giving him more access.
He hadn’t kissed her in an entire life time, he wasn’t about to stop now. His hand roamed down her body, caressing her breasts and stomach before he reached for her leg, bending it so he could draw it closer to him, and part it from the other. He teased the flesh, still controlling her lips.
“Stefan-“ she said against his persistent mouth.
Stefan released her mouth and her leg, and Laura’s eyes had to adjust from the abruptness of his leaving. He lowered his head to her breasts, licking every part of the flesh. He felt her tense up a little in fear of what she was doing, so he trailed kisses along her stomach before he placed his hands on her knees and parted her slightly resisting legs. He dipped his head to kiss her, then drew back, further pulling her legs apart to place her right leg over his shoulder. His fingers and lips touched and caressed her inner thighs before reaching to kiss her. He stroked his tongue along her, gripping her clitoris between his teeth. He scraped her lightly with his lips and teeth, and she shivered. He then began stroking her harder, stabbing at her startlingly, forcing a response.
Stefan raised himself over her, pulling her up off the steps so she was sitting up. She looked at him with drugged, somehow lost eyes, lost in some place she had no idea where she was or what she was doing. She was just existing…somewhere. He began to remove his black clothes, mutely telling her to help him. She did. She did with delicate hands, hands of uncertainty, and he knew why. He thought she was sure this was the price for Lesley Lu’s life. That wasn’t exactly a top thought on his mind right now though.
She pushed his shirt off of him with his help, and he wrapped his arm around her back, pushing her down again. By this point she felt dazed, she didn’t know what to do, just let him do whatever. Her hands rested once again on his arms, as she felt no barriers between them, she felt his skin hot against hers. He held her face in one of his hands as he thrust himself into her. Her eyes closed as she hissed softly. He inched his hands down to her lower back to help her arch against him. He moved smoothly in and out of her, very slowly. He slowly traced her body with his hands – shoulders, breasts, ribcage, waist, abdomen, and her hips. He increased the pressure, intensifying the pleasure while kissing her mouth again. He remained very close over her, protectively as they kissed, their lips doing most of the action, she was now almost as aggressive as he was. He moaned into her kiss when she constricted herself around him. She arched against him, tilting her head back as her hair spread like a fan against the stair. He touched the skin of her arms as he drove more deeply into her, pulling her up further to plunge into her one last time as they began to shudder in their climax.
He gathered her tightly in his arms, holding her exhausted body against him. She shook, he knew she was still afraid, and still recovering as he was. Her arms barely wrapped around his waist, he rocked her softly, and held her head against her chest.
“Did I hurt you,” he said against her hair, she couldn’t tell if he cared or was just plain curious.
“N-no,” still terrified and confused from being thrown into her other life so quickly.
Well that actually depends, she thought. What are you going to do now? What am I going to do now? What the hell did I just do?
Her cell phone rang and she jumped, a short scream escaping her lips.
“Jesus,” she breathed, trying to calm down as she realized it was coming from her purse.
He moved off of her, letting her retrieve it. Laura’s bra was never removed, only the cups peeled from her breasts. She recovered her breasts and her underwear as she answered the phone. Her dress was never taken off either, but wrinkled very well.
        “Hello,” she said.
“Laura? It’s Bobbie. I have news,” Bobbie sounded excited.
“Okay,” Laura said, afraid to ask about her daughter because it had been such bad news so far.
“There’s a donor, Lesley Lu is going to live! Simone says there is a match and the transplant will happen and Lesley Lu will be fine.”
Laura began breathing heavily in happiness, tears slipping down her face.
“Oh my God, are-are you sure? Will she live long enough?”
“Of course she will, she’s your daughter. You need to come back to the hospital though and sign a whole bunch of things. Where are you? You weren’t at home.”
Laura didn’t answer right away, and Bobbie interrupted, saving Laura from having to come up with a cool lie in front of Stefan.
“Luke went to Florida, should I call him or do you want to?”
“I will. Bobbie, thank you so much, I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”
“I’m so glad someone helped you, even if it wasn’t my daughter. Lesley Lu is a beautiful little girl and she’s yours, and she’s here to stay. Because of you. You were a beautiful mother, you have been here doing everything you could. So get back here and we’ll discuss it all!”
Laura wiped her tears. “Thank you, Bobbie,” she whispered.
Laura hung up the phone and turned back to Stefan.
“You did it before you even came here, before you even called me,” she said, knowing it was true without him having to confirm it.
He didn’t reply. She threw herself forward, grabbing him.
“Where is he? Is he all right? Did it hurt him? Does he know who it’s for?”
        Stefan didn’t reply.
“Tell me something! What does he look like? Tell me anything!”
She had never been so insistent. Never begged for something like this in her entire life. He took her hands off of him, enclosing them in his.
“Go to your daughter, you didn’t lose both your children.”
And he stood up and left. Somehow, she knew that wasn’t the end. She knew there would be more. God save her.
