CHARLES C. HEATH, was a farmer in Indiana but his health failing he moved to Brooklyn, Iowa in 1882 where he died in 1884 with consumption. He was a man who never spoke evil of his neighbors and was honored and respected by all of his business associates. A skeptic who stood by his bedside when he died said that he was convinced there was something in Christianity when a man came to die. An old atheist said to the writer that he didn't believe in a Deity who would take as good a man as Charley Heath from his family and leave an old reprobate like himself live. While the family were left with out support for a few years they were largely on their own resources which developed self-reliance in each one making them better men and women than if their father had lived. Their mother maintained the home and kept them together. When the mother is gone the home is gone.
