Rahim Noor Sentenced To Two Months Jail

Former Inspector-General Of Police Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Noor has been sentenced to two months jail and fined RM2,000 for causing hurt to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

But the public prosecutor soon filed a notice of appeal against the sentence on the grounds that it was not adequate. Tan Sri Abdul Rahim had pleaded guilty to an amended charge of voluntarily causing hurt to the former Deputy Prime Minister at the Bukit Aman police lock-up in Kuala Lumpur on September 20 1998.

His counsel K. Kumaraendran succesfully applied for a stay of execution of the sentence, pending an appeal to the high court and he was allowed bail of RM5,000. The offence carries a maximum one year's jail term or RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
