Thursday, July 16th 1999 ~ Welcome to California
Aka ~ Mmmm ... Buffalo wings
Thursday morning we were each picked up by Rag's parents, I being the last around 6:30. Driving to the airport, it was clear we were delirious from the lack of sleep. I think Kelly won the prize for most-sleep with a whopping 4 hours. Yuri didn't sleep at all. You can guess the type of dialouge that went on. I call it the "Space madness" syndrome, for those of you that saw the Ren and Stimpy episode .... ok stop laughing at me.
At the airport, Kelly and I, like always, were starving, and decided to buy food from TGIF's, which surprisingly had everything on the menu at 8 in the morning. Kelly got the Buffalo wings (easily her greatest obsession) and I picked up the Chicken fingers. Since there wasn't much time til boarding, we ended up taking the food with us, and eating it on the plane. I think the people around us found it strange that during take off, the unmistakable aroma of chicken was floating through the air. Shh!! hehe
For a five hour trip I think it went considerably well, though I was beyond uncomfortable when I tried to sleep through the last two hours. We were SUPPOSED to be working on our comic but, hah. When does that ever happen.
We arrived in California around 2 in New York time, but turns out we gained the three hours and I was very happy =) The Anaheim Hilton was very impressive, and I was excited to say the least. While Rag's mom checked in, we got to hang around the fountain in the lobby. Between me and this hotel, it was love at first sight. <3
We went up to our room, 7118 if I remember correctly, and practically jumped on the furnature. We had a clear view of the pool, and it was unanimously decided to run down their immediately. On the way, we saw a good deal of the hotel, and I really couldn't wait until tomorrow. We spent time in the pool, and I think the people lounging there thought we were crazy. It wouldn't be the first time, hehe =)
Later on we had lunch at the Cafe Oasis. In the time we spent in California, I think we ate there twice a day. Oh, Cafe Oasis, you were so good to us! NEwayz, we finished up putting my weapon together and tried working with our hair. It didn't work. We gave up the idea of wigs. Sigh!
We then joined Rags' mum, who was waiting on line to register for us (She's so kind!). Since she was already near the counter, we didn't get to look at the hall costumers too much. We were clearly impressed by what we did see, though! We spotted an Aoshi, Xellos, a Shilfiel I believe? A cat person, some Shinsen Gumi, and numerous Lina Inverse. Very cool =) After awhile Yuri and I whipped out the Elemental weapons and proceeded to tear about the building. That was fun. I highly reccomend it to other convention goers. While sitting in the comfie chairs on the 2nd floor, we got to watch this guy put up the AX99 and Pikachu banners. Since he was kneeling only about 2 feet away from us for the Pikachu banner, I was very tempted to bop him over the head with Kougan Anki and steal the huge banner. I think carrying that thing gives you a very false sense of power, it being foam and all. Hey, it looks like it might hurt from far away, right? I consider my job done then ;)
