Heero knocked once. Twice. There was still no answer from within.
Heero frowned. Where could Trowa be? He had been seeing less and less of the
Heavyarms pilot since they came to this High School. They had only been there
for two weeks. What could possibly keep him so occupied?
Heero wandered outside the dorm, walking the campus and observing it's
various distinctions. It was quite a nice boarding school, with a large campus and
well kept buildings. Chosen by Wufei, predictably. Heero's mind wandered to his
fellow pilots. Wufei, Quatre ..... Duo. The three of them had gone on a mission,
leaving Heero and Trowa to move on for the time being and lay low. They were
expected to join thetwo very soon, after two weeks of minimum contact. Heero
remotely wanted them to hurry up and get here already. As much as he denied it to
himself, the silence in his dorm room had begun to bother him.
Heero was still thinking about Duo's absence when a familiar, irritating
voice called his name. He turned reluctantly, only to face his worst nightmare come
true.
Relena Peacecraft running towards him.
Heero clenched his fists. She was wearing the school uniform. Some how she had
managed to track him down again and transfer schools. Heero tried to ignore the
pain creeping into his head at the sound of her voice.
"Heero!! Heero!! Thank god I found you! It's been so long .... I just had
to see you ....". A familiar, glazed-over look hit Relena, and Heero nearly cringed.
This girl never seemed to get the hint, and Heero was not the type of guy to
appreciate obsessive, jealous blond girls glomping all over him.
.....obsessive, jealous, braided-boys on the other hand ......
Heero's unbidden thought was interrupted by the approach of a third
party. Heero couldn't decide whether to be angry at the figure, or be relieved.
"Trowa ...."
Trowa walked calmly toward the Heero and Relena, a roll of papers
held tightly in one hand. He made no obvious signs, but Heero could tell he was
amused by the sight of Relena Peacecraft drooling all over him. The look that soon
came over Heero's face, however, helped Trowa decide against commenting on it
later.
"Heero, isn't it nearly curfew? What are you doing out here? Oh, Relena! I
was unaware that you also attended this school." Heero was too busy seething to
appreciate Trowa's impeccable acting ability. He looked over at Relena, who
seemed to have forgotten her intentions since the arrival of the other Gundam pilot.
Trowa read the look on Heero's face, and promptly made up an excuse
for the two boys to take their leave. Relena looked both skeptical and disappointed,
but she politely let them go. On their way back to the dorm, Trowa was in a
strangely inquisitive mood. He decided to test a theory he had.
"Relena Peacecraft is quite a resourceful one, isn't she? I didn't
think she's find us this time, but .... she's full of surprises." "Aa," was Heero's
response, despite hearing more words out of Trowa's mouth than he had in all the
time he'd known him. "You've got quite a case on your hands, Heero," Trowa said,
as they walked through the empty hallway. They had almost reached their rooms.
Heero was silent for a long moment. Then he asked in his usual monotone,
"Where were you?" Trowa shrugged nonchalently, "Just taking on a little project.
Keeps me busy. I barely have time for much anymore .....". He watched Heero as
he said those last words. The Wing pilot made no outward signs, but Trowa knew
he was thinking. Exactly the way he thought it would. "I've been practicing with
the other students. You know ... for the school play .." Trowa waited a moment.
"Why don't you give it a shot, Heero?"
Heero stopped walking, and looked at Trowa with his deadly Yuy glare.
Trowa thought he would laugh right then at there. Heero? Acting? It was a ridiculous
idea, but ...
"Oh come on, Heero. I can think of a number of reasons for you to try
this. One being, Relena won't be able to hang all over you if you're not around to
hang on. Two, it's a challenge ...," ::Especially for you ...:: Trowa thought sarcastically.
He folded his arms and looked away for a moment. Just as he planned, Heero glared
even harder. Was Trowa saying he couldn't take on this challenge?
"Three ... well, I don't know Heero. I know a few people who are into this kind of
thing ...."
Heero looked away. ::That's it Heero .... we don't know that many people
... you know who I'm talking about .....:: Heero began walking off to his own room,
but Trowa continued talking. He knew he had caught the Wing pilot's attention. "The
play is Romeo and Juliet. We practice everyday after school in the auditorium.
Auditions begin in two days." Trowa waited until he heard Heero's door close,
gazing after where the boy had just walked. ::He's changed. We've all changed.::
Trowa closed his eyes, a faint smile over his lips, as he leaned his head softly
against his door.
See Quatre? ..... We're not the only ones .....
Relena poked her head into the auditorium doors. There was a fairly
large gathering of students inside. She wondered to herself what they were doing. A
student exiting the auditorium came past her. Relena stopped the student and asked
what the gathering was about. "Ohh, just some people practicing for the school play,"
was the response. Relena surveyed the crowd intently. "School play ....?" she
mumbled to herself. She doubted Heero would be among them, but she looked
anyway. She was desperate. After searching for her beloved for hours, she had
received some very interesting comments about him. Apparently he was rather
popular at this school, though no one claimed to be his friend. A little too popular
among the girls, Relena frowned. After the searching though, he was nowhere to be
found. She was very worried ....
"Heero!" Relena gasped, when she spotted the Wing pilot in the vacinity
of the stage. He was with the other Gundam pilot, the tall boy with the green eyes.
They and a few other students were talking, each with a bundle of papers in their
hands. Relena was in near shock. Her Heero? Trying out for the school play?
Another group of students passed by Relena, each with the same script in hand. Relena
peered curiously at the bold text on each book.
"Romeo and Juliet?? Heero doing Shakespeare?? At first it was utter
disbelief on Relena's mind. Then as it slowly sank in, Relena was suddenly struck
by the romantic side Heero was obviously trying to express. She was melting in her
shoes when someone bumped into her.
"Oh! Excuse me young lady," a man with a clipboard exclaimed. He
smiled warmly, "Will you be trying out for the play as well?"
Suddenly the wheels in Relena's head began turning. "Yes," she smiled
back at the older gentleman. "Yes, I will ....."
Trowa stepped out of the shower, still reciting the Queen Mab speech to
himself. He didn't want the part of Romeo, and was intent on portraying the
character of Mercutio instead. Heero had commented on how unlike him it was to
want to be part of a play. Trowa smiled. It's true. He wasn't much for theatre, but he
was doing this for another reason altogether. He remembered that time he and Quatre
sat up all night, reading Romeo and Juliet together. Quatre had fawned over his
favorite part, the Queen Mab speech. When Trowa found out the school was
preforming the play, he had at first only fancied himself trying such a thing. But his
fancy soon turned to determination.
Trowa could imagine Heero commenting on how unlike him it was to be sentimental.
Trowa nearly laughed. "You'll learn Heero. You'll learn ....."
As Trowa toweled his hair, the phone rang. He picked it up, only to hear a familiar voice.
"Wufei. Is this a secure line?"
"Don't bother. Everything's taken care of," came Wufei's no-nonsense response.
"We'll be joining you immediately ..."
Wufei's voice became more casual suddenly, taking the conversation away from
missions. "Everything is well there, I suppose?"
Trowa thought for a moment. "Well ....."
When Trowa finished telling Wufei what he had missed, it was Wufei who seemed
amused. "I do believe there is someone who will enjoy this more than I do ...."
"Wufei! You wouldn't ....!"
"What do you mean? Who else would take care of such a dilemna?"
With that, they both laughed.
"We'll be there tomorrow, then."
"No problem," Trowa answered. "I think ... I'll let Heero find out for himself."
Wufei snorted. "I look forward to it then." And with that, Wufei hung up.
"Honey, I'm hoooooome!!!!!"
The dorm room door slammed open suddenly, making Heero swivel in his seat to
look at the oncomer. Not
that he coudln't guess who it was.
However, the sight Heero took in was enough to leave him frozen, mouth ajar.
It was Duo alright .....
But ....
"Aw, Heero baby. What's wrong?" Duo laughed devilishly, but his voice was two
octaves higher. Wavy brown hair was pulled up into a ponytail by a shiny black
bow. The eye that winked at him was covered in a thin layer of eyeshadow.
And Duo was wearing a girl's uniform.
