Mantras

Trust me, it's paradise.
This is where the hungry come to feed. For mine is a generation that circles the globe in search of something we haven't tried before.
So never refuse an invitation. Never resist the unfamiliar. Never fail to be polite. And never outstay your welcome. Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience. And if it hurts, you know what? It's probably worth it.
You hope, and you dream. But you never believe that something's gonna happen for you. Not like it does in the movies. When it actually does, you expect it to feel different. More visceral. More real. I was waiting for it to hit me.
Hit me.
I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it's not some place you could look for. Because it's not where you go. It's how you feel for a moment in your life. And if you find that moment, it lasts forever.
It lasts forever...

-Leonardo DiCaprio, from "The Beach"

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

-Charles Dickens, in "A Tale Of Two Cities"

Some of mine

The meaning of life is to seek the meaning of life.

Stop crying when you can; if all else fails, break down weeping, but keep in mind that crying usually won't change anything unless you cry in the presence of someone else. And often times that gets embarrassing.

I'm okay with it as long as it's okay with the other person.

Let me live.

I don't wish to defeat my enemies before I can understand them.

Do we have to stick to gender roles? Because if a man demands me to wash dishes for the rest of my life, I'll kill him.

Lyrics

"It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"- R.E.M.

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs. Feed it off an aux speak, grunt, no, strength, the ladder start to clatter with fear fight down height. Wire in a fire, representing seven games, and a government for hire and a combat site. Left of west and coming in a hurry with the Furies breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered cropped. Look at that low playing! Fine, then. Uh oh, overflow, population, common food, but it'll do- save yourself, serve yourself- world serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed, dummy with the rapture and the revered and the right, right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign towers. Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn. Locking in, uniforming, book burning, blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle, light a votive. Step down, step down. Watch your heel crush, crushed, uh-oh, this means no fear cavalier. Renegade steer clear! A tournament, tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine. (2x)

The other night I dreamt of knives, continental drift divide. Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs. Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic, slam book neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel
fine...fine...

(It's time I had some time alone)

"You Get What You Give" - New Radicals

Wake up kids
We've got the dreamers disease
Age fourteen
They got you down on your knees
So polite
You're busy still saying please
Frenemies
Who when you're down ain't your friend
Every night
We smash their Mercedes-Benz
First we run
And then we laugh 'til we cry
But when the night is falling
And you cannot find the light
If you feel your dream is dying
Hold tight
You've got the music in you
Don't let go
You've got the music in you
One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give
Four a.m. we ran the miracle mile
We're flat broke
But hey we do it in style
The bad rich
God's flying in for your trial
But when the night is falling
And you cannot find a friend
You feel your tree is breaking
Just bend
You've got the music in you
Don't let go
You've got the music in you
One dance left
The world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give
This whole d**n world can fall apart
You'll be o.k., follow your heart
You're in harms way, I'm right behind
Now say you're mine
You've got the music in you
Don't let go
You've got the music in you
One dance left
The world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give
Don't let go
I feel the music in you
Fly high
What's real can't die
You only get what you give
You're gonna get what you give
Just don't be afraid to leave
Health insurance rip off lying
FDA big bankers buying
Fake computer crashes dining
Cloning while they're multiplying
Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson
Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson
You're all fakes run to your mansions
Come round here we'll kick your a**es

"Flagpole Sitta"- Harvey Danger

I had visions, I was in them
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
The rottenness and evil in me
Fingertips have memories
Mine can't forget the curves of your body
And when i feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(But no one ever does)

bah... I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot 'cause I'm in hell

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a t.v.
Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs now I'm an amputee, god d**n you

bah... I'm not sick but I'm not well
and I'm so hot 'cause I'm in hell
bah... I'm not sick but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live so well

I wanna publish zines
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
And kill my mind
You kill my mind

Paranoia paranoia
Everybody's coming to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm running underground with the moles, digging holes
Hear the voices in my head
I swear to god it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they're killing me

bah... I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot 'cause I'm in hell
bah... I'm not sick but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live so well
