17. Windup (Aqualung - 1971) A look at organized religion - lots of good lines. "So I asked this God a question and by way of firm reply He said 'I'm not the kind you have to windup on Sundays' ." 18. Steel Monkey (Crest of the Knave - 1987) This one is fast paced, hard driving and electric. "Can you guess my name? And can you guess my trade? Well I won't rest before the world is made." 19. Locomotive Breath (Aqualung - 1971) Hard driving - most songs at this pace have meaningless simple lyrics - not this one. "In the shuffling madness of the locomotive breath, runs the all time loser, headlong to his death." 20. Broadsword (Broadsword and the Beast - 1982) Don't be going into battle without knowing what's at stake. Nothing flashy in this song but I like it. "Bring me my broadsword and clear understanding." 21. My God (Aqualung - 1971) Another one from the Aqualung album that looks at God vs. religion and man's concept of what God should be. "He is the God of nothing if that's all that you can see. He is the God of everything. He's inside you and me." 22. Queen and Country (Warchild - 1974) A cynical view of blind British patriotism? "For Queen and country in the long dying day. And it's been this way for five long years since we signed our souls away." 23. Hymn 43 (Aqualung - 1971) A protest of man's use of Jesus for financial gain. "If Jesus saves, well He better save Himself from the gory glory seekers who use His Name in death." 24. Kissing Willie (Rock Island - 1989) Fast paced, hard rocking, all electric. "Nice girl but a bad girl's better - qualifies in both ways to my mind. But now she's kissing Willie." 25. Bungle in the Jungle (War Child - 1974) Light, cheery, not too serious on an album that is mostly serious. "I'm a tiger when I want love and a snake when we disagree." |
