There are also two children
Mary 4
Joseph 2
I believe Joseph is the one in Indiana in later years.
Mary could be Joseph's sister.
Thomas died in 1865 in Civil War

It is possible that Thomas could be father of Charley and Sam found in the 1870 census both abt. 7 years old or could be twins with out parents.

Generation No. 2

2.  WILLIAM2 CATILLA (UNKNOWN1) was born Abt. 1827 in Virginia, and died April 11, 1865 in Franklin Tennessee.  He married NANCY JANE STEWART 1849 in Pope County Illinois.  She was born Abt. 1833 in Tennessee.
What connection could Thomas Stewart and Salley Cattilla have to Grief Syewart and the Catilla  children????
Notes for WILLIAM CATILLA:
Thomas Steawart b. 1779 wed Salley/Sarah Cattilla in VA.  Seems they
moved to Smith county Tenn in 1802 where he was the head of a family of
eight.   Surely a connection to Grief Stewart and the Cotillier clan.
Would explain how Thomas Cotilier could be born in KY. before William
Cotillier entered there in 1840, he was probably living in the home of
his cousin a Steawart.

Thomas Stewart
was the son of Dr. Thomas Stewart of Dinwiddie, and the FATHER of Thomas
Stewart who m. Sarah Cotillier.  (Got that?)  This is all confirmed in the
Dr. Thomas chancery papers from both Lunenburg and Mecklenburg.  It's not
clear to me whether Thomas Jr. (let's call him "Tennessee Thomas") was
married twice, but it is clear that his son (let's call him "Thomas who m.
Sarah Cotillier") was considerably older than Tennessee Thomas's other
children, who all went with their daddy to TN.  The chancery files make it
clear that Thomas Who Married Sarah remained behind in Lunenburg.

It is entirely possible  that our man Grief Stewart was a younger son of
Tennessee Thomas, which might help explain the Cotillier connection.

Grief Stuart was in the 1840 Livingston Co. Census in 1840 and Nancy Stewart and William Catilla were married in 1849 Pope Ill.

1850 Livingston Co Census
William ,Nancy Jane and possible brother Thomas
They were living with Grief Stuart and his family.
I believe Grief is father of Nancy Jane Stuart, Williams wife.
1860 Livingston Co. Census
William with Nancy and more children plus Richard and Thomas who I believe to be his brothers.

William Catilla died just at the end of the Civil War.He was buried in Franklin TN. and then moved to nashville Tn.
His pension record application June 2,1875 # 221.267
He was in H.17 Ky Cav. It said Minor child William Cotilla

3.  JOHN2 CATILLER (UNKNOWN1 CATILLA) was born 1830 in Virginia.  He married (1) JULIA CARTER.    He married (2) UNKNOWN SLOAN.

Notes for JOHN CATILLER:
Listed in 1860 Livinston County Census
has John Catillard along with Tomas born 24 and Mary 4 and Joseph 2.

I have chosen not to put my entire family in this file, just in case I am wrong about the connection.

This is just an assumption on my part, because it fits and I have not seen another Joseph Catiller in all of my research.I believe this Joseph to be the connection to all of the Evansville Indiana Catillers.
Now it is possible that Mary is his stepsister.

Another assumption on my part is that my Great grandfather John Catiller married to Barbra Ann Newton ,born in 1865 could be a step brother to Joseph.

Another researcher states that she found a marriage record of Julia Carter and a John Tillard in Tenn. marriage books.Joseph Catiller stated that his mother was Julia Carter and father John (Dilliard) Catiller and it also states this info on Josephs marriage record.
Ella also stated that John Catiller had sister named  Mary Bogard or a step mother named Mary Bogard.

I am also assuming all of the following info as it fits so well. This all still needs to be researched

According to Carrie Bumb ,daughter of John Catiller, son of Joseph, Joseph's mother died when he was an infant. Joseph shown in 1860 Livingston Co. Census with just his father John Catillard being just 4 years old.
Joseph's father marries again and his wife has a son Hilary(step brother to Joseph) that she leaves behind when she dies.
My grandfather John Hilary Catiller, has the same middle name as her son. Further family info states that Joseph also had a step sister named Mary Bogard.
NOW what if,my family fits in here with all the rest of the Catiller line.

I know that my John T. Catiller was born abt. 1865 in Kentucky, married Barbra Ann Newton in 1886 in Evansville.According to Evansville Marriage Records John T. Catiller's father was John Catiller and mother was M.T.Sloan and John T. also had a sister named Mary who married Wiliam Cain and John Freeman in Evansville,Indiana all in marriage records.

You had posted to the Herndon Genforum in 2002 that you were looking for a James
C Castilla who married Georgie.  At that time I didn't have anything other than
a James C. Castilla that was stillborn in 1902.  This is a long shot but I have
recently made links in the Herndon family.  James B. Herndon had a daughter
named Georea Herndon (could be misspelled according to the 1880 census) She was
born in 1880 and was 5 months old at the time of the census.  There is the
possibility that Georea A. Herndon married a James C. Castilla and had a
stillborn baby in 1902 and buried it in the family plot.  This is all
speculation but you might want to look into it.

Notes for HERBERT CATILLA:
Notes from Scott Haynes
The man who might be my grandfather, Herbert Cotilla, died in the
mid-70's of a heart attack.  He was also incarcerated in an Illinois
prison during the 50's.  All of this is according to Diane.  His mother's
name was Etta Rose Cotilla.  I've missplaced his father's name.  He
  had
brothers: John, Charles (Charlie), and George.  He had at least one
  sister, Marie.

Herbert lived and died in southern Illinois in Mounds, I think.  I
believe his grandparents moved to the area from South Carolina in the
  1800's.

Herbert and his wife, at the time, did live in South Bend, IN for a
  while
where my father was born.  I don't know how many times he was
  married or
how many children he might have had.  All I do know is that he and
  my
grandmother had two kids, my dad and his older sister.  And my
  dad's
older sister that I refer to is not you.

I came across some information on the Cotillas I hope you might
  know
about.  This past weekend I was in Cairo, Ill to mourn the death of my
great-grandmother.  While there, I went down to the courthouse to
  look up
any information regarding my grandfather, Herbert Cotilla.  I did find
the birth certificate of his first child, my aunt, there.  But I found
something else that may prove to be far more interesting to me.  I
  found
a marriage certificate dated Dec. 8, 1936 between a Frank Lee
  Cotilla,
age 30 of Mounds, Pulaski County Ill and a Lois Neathamer, age 20
  of
Cairo, Alexander County Ill.  The certificate was filed in Cairo.  Do
  you
know of a Frank Lee Cotilla?  By doing the math from the info on the
marriage cert., he would have been born around 1906.  From the
  birth
certificate I found, my grandfather, Herbert Cotilla would have been
  born
around 1908.  Herbert's siblings do not include a Frank.  Maybe he is
  an
uncle or great-uncle.  Can you help shed some light on this?

  Scott
