POLICE ACADEMY
FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR
In 1895, a school of pistol practice was set up by a board of five police commissioners. Today all uniformed members attend firearms qualification courses twice per year, using the indoor ranges located in each borough or at the Police Academy for those officers armed with .38 cal revolvers and the outdoor range at Rodman's Neck in the Bronx for those officers armed with 9mm semi automatics. Various special weapons qualification courses are conducted at the Firearms and Tactics Section for use the 9mm, shotgun, and undercover weapons.
