TASK FORCE
The NYPD Task Force Unit is a mobile squad of officers available to respond to the site of a police emergency, civil unrest, large scale demonstration, or any location where a large number of officers are needed in a short amount of time. There is one Task Force Unit assigned to each Patrol Borough. Some Boroughs like Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan are divided into two separate Patrol Boroughs therefore, they have two Task Force Units assigned. The Task Force Unit was created as a extension of the Patrol Borough. Police Officials needed to have large number of police officer available for unexpected events. Task Force Units responded to mobilization calls from Captains or above out in the field. When they are called, they respond directly to the scene, and begin the process of brining order until the patrol units can arrive. When officers who are assigned to the Task Force Unit are not responding to a mobilization, they perform standard patrol duties in a Precinct assigned to them.
