Summary:

While sleeping in his quarters at the military base in Fort Benning, Georgia, Keith Remsen, alias Nightmask, is pulled into the dream of a demonic-looking being who calls himself the Madman. The Madman charges Nightmask with chainsaw in hand, leading the hero into pits of lava and fire. A gigantic snake comes up from the fire to swallow Nightmask, enveloping him in blackness.

Nightmask awakens in complete whiteness, where Madman relates the tale of how he gained his abilities to pull others into his dreams and kill them after the recent "Black Event" in Pittsburgh (whereas Nightmask, he observes, gained his powers from the "White Event" a year earlier). Nightmask tries desperately to escape the dream realm of Madman, which becomes flooded by visions of dead men. He finally reaches onto an image so terrifying to Madman that he is pulled out of the villain's dream immediately, back to safety at Fort Benning. The image is that of the Justice Killer.
