Huascaran Peak - Peru - Cordillera Blanca

At 22,210 Huascaran is one of the highest peaks in the America's. And the Andes are second only to the Himalaya.
Three long days got us to a campsite over 19,000 feet.
This is from our camp at the glacier's edge at 17,000 feet. Two days from the trailhead got us to this point.

The third day on the glacier saw an avalanche nearby. Huascaran Norte is still 6000 feet or more above us.

The "quick" 2,000 foot day turned into nearly nine hours. Visible is 3 others crawling up towards our campsite near "La Garganta" - the col between the two summits.

We spent two nights at 19,000 feet, made a summit attempt that got us to the col and about 20,000 feet. Suffering from diahrea, cold, altitude, bad weather, etc, we decided to go down. But, we got spectacular views, incredible glacier formations, stars like I've never seen, and much more.
