Minden Lookout built 1978 by Omokoroa-Te Puna Lions Service Club

Construction of the Minden Pole Tower Lookout

The Omokoroa - Te Puna Lions Club handed over the Minden Lookout to the Tauranga County Council on Saturday 28th October 1978. The ceremony was attended by 150 people and it's construction had taken 21 months at a cost of $3500. The Club President Mr. B E Wright thanked the public and business people for giving time and discounts on building materials.

This ambitious project was undertaken by a comparatively new club and took just under 2000 hours to construct and members committed on a voluntary basis. It is remarkable for its originality of design and strength of structure - aesthetically pleasing on it's commanding site with shrubs planted in front.

The views of the Bay of Plenty coastline, suburbia, farmland and bush-clad hills are breathtaking. As well as being a lookout for scenery, it remains a haven of peace and tranquillity.

It is popular for a weekend drive, used as a venue for afternoon tea or site for a picnic outing and the pleasure it affords is much appreciated by both the community and visitors to the region. (Ref. BOP Times 30/10/1978
