Matters Arising:
Website – Congratulations to Winsome for the fantastic work that has gone into setting up the Te Puna Heartland website.
Winsome went over what the website contains. She needs an outline as to what Te Puna Heartlands is about.
It would be beneficial to have the website promoted in the Te Puna News.
A link with council would certainly benefit the website – Kathy Webb needs to take control of this. A letter to be written asking that the link be made available. (Kathy.webb@wpopdc.govt.nz).
Te Puna Quarry Annual General Meeting: Tourism promoted as interactive experience. We need to promote activities, events and the benefits to interacting with the environment. It would be great to be part of a trail. We need to work with the tourism co-ordinators/bus companies to promote the area. We have a lot to offer and at present we lose a lot of tourists to Rotorua – especially from the cruise ships.
Local Orgainisations: How can we keep in touch with other local groups. This is something we need to look at next year – hold off until middle of the year.
Te Puna Hall: Winsome obtained minutes of committee meeting. There are photos of war heroes which she would like to photograph for the website.
There is a concern that the hall may be lost. The land is being changed to public land and it will be a reserve. It will require public involvement to change things.
The Council are going to do a vision as to where Te Puna is heading – mid next year. We need to have committee input – do we want to be residential. Instead of leaving it up to the Council we need to be proactive and be heard.
We cannot just expect what Smart Growth have set for us. As a community we need to be involved. If growth overtakes what we want – can we determine where it happens. We need to see what our district plan is – developers can come in and find loop holes.
Effluent Group – nothing to report.
Peter phoned Brian but have not met – onsite effluent treatment plan. Submissions 4/12/04. Peter and Robyn to meet with Brian to discuss.
Pipeline submission – Te Puna West, Wallace Road and Link Road. The Te Puna West residents need to take responsibility for their septic tanks. A solution is needed to rectify the problem in this area – mini treatment plan.
Bank Account: As Heather is also secretary for the Te Puna School it was put to the committee that the Heartlands bank account be changed to the same bank for convenience. Viviene Edwards moved and Heather Lowe seconded.
Te Puna Welcome Signs – Peter to follow up.
General Business:
Kaimai Coast Tourism – Thursday 25th November at Resort Pacifico, State Highway 2 invites tourism operators to attend an evening to update tourism in the WBOP, in conjunction with BOP Tourism and WBOP District Council. Winsome Griffin and Vivien Edwards to work out where we fit into this scheme.
What is Te Puna Heartland about? – Brian Crow is always asking what we are about. Are there enough brochures out there. These could be given to the Kaimai Coast meetings and included in the Te Puna School new entrants pack. Part 5 could be taken out or changed, 1 – 4 is okay. When Robyn writes submission to Te Puna News – include Part 1 – 4.
Copy to everyone about constitution.
Wairoa River Strategy Meeting: 22/11 at 7.30. Robyn unable to attend so Peter will attend and Vivien to let Shane know.
Council: Jo Gravit covered the changes that are being made in the Council. One policy committee (Brunning) and one operations committee (Paul Thomas). Ross Paterson is a level higher.
End of Year Get Together – Barbeque at the Lochheads on Thursday 16th December at 7.30pm – BYO.
Community Library – is holding a Heirloom Christmas night on the 22/11/04 at 7pm. The cost for tickets is $10.00.
Meeting closed at 9pm.
