The Wiccan Sabbats are based on pre-Christian celebrations of nature, most often Celtic ones. Some of theese dates have been made into Christian holidays.The circle of the year goes as follows: |

Yule 21/12: The celebration of yule comes from old norse celebrations. One celebrates the light that is turning and The Horned Hunter of the Sun. This is sometimes symbolized by lighting a fire in the cauldron. |

Candlemas 2/2: Also called Brigid's day. A celebration of fertilety, springtime and birth. Sometimes cleansings and purefications are done this day, to symbolize the cleansing sun. |

Ostara 20/3: This is the celebration of balance in nature, and the spring that has gently begun. |

Beltane 1/4: The last spring and fertility-festival. Now we are celebrating the warm months to come. |

Midsummersday 21/5: This is a celebration of summer and of joy. Traditionally, this is the best day to collect herbs. |

Lammas 1/8: This is the first autumn fest. We celebrate the start of the food-gathering. |

Mabon 9/9: At the fest of Mabon, an old celtical tradition, we celebrate all the food that is gathered. |

Samhain 31/10: Yes, it's halloweeen. Orignally, the old fest Samhain was celebrated this night. It is the wiccan New Year, and we celebrate all those who have passed on. |
