Armenian American Health Association of Greater Washington

Welcome to the Armenian American Health Association of Greater Washington

History and Accomplishments

The Armenian American Health Association of Greater Washington (AAHAGW) was established in 1991 as a non-profit, independent association by a group of health professionals from Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. to promote health and medicine in Armenia and for the community of the Greater Washington D.C. area.

Since its foundation, AAHAGW has transferred over US$1,000,000 worth of medicine, infant formula, and medical supplies to Armenia.

Furthermore AAHAGW has:

1.  established the first Maxillofacial Prosthetics Clinic in the Central Military Hospital of Yerevan,

2.  upgraded the Blood Bank facilities in the Central Military Hospital of Yerevan,

3.  sent 100 beds to different hospitals and clinics in Armenia,

4.  supported the medical needs of a foster home in Nork,

5.  established a children’s clinic at Camp Siranoush in Yeghegnatzor, Armenia,

6.  started mobile health units in the Martuni and Hadrut regions of Karabakh and,

7.  transferred medical and health literature to medical libraries in Yerevan.

In addition, AAHAGW conducts local health fairs, where the local community has the opportunity to hear informative health-related lectures as well as consult with a variety of medical specialists.  AAHAGW’s members include physicians, dentists, nurses, chiropractors, social workers, health researchers, public health specialists, and other allied health professionals who live and work in Washington D.C., Virginia and Maryland.  As a non-profit organization, AAHAGW has no overhead expenditures and 100% of the funds raised from the Greater Washington community and other sources are used for humanitarian programs.  For its efforts, AAHAGW has been the recipient of a Distinguished Service Award from the President of the Republic of Armenia for “distinguished service in providing urgently needed humanitarian assistance to the people of Armenia” and a letter of appreciation from the Health Minister of Karabakh.

Mission

The mission of the association is to accomplish the following in Armenia, Karabakh, and metropolitan D.C.:
