Merle is a hyperactive, possessive, and jealous young cat-girl. She completely worships "Lord" Van, and despises Hitomi, whom she views as the competition. Merle spent, basically, her whole childhood with Van, after being orphaned, and is one of his few true friends. She is very protective of Van, and often worries when he goes out to battle. Merle loves, besides Lord Van, shiny things- we see this while she's rummaging through Hitomi's backpack- "ooh, what's this?" Merle, as all cats, part human or not, is very temperamental. She goes from annoyingly hyper, to resentfully jealous, and back again, but if she seems like bad character, she's not. Merle is the one who realizes that Van loves Hitomi, and accepts it, telling him to follow his heart and go to Hitomi, no matter how much it did pain her to say it. She's bright, and caring, as well as courageous- standing defiantly alone infront of the Guymelefs of Nariya and Eriya, who were harming Van. Though she may sometimes be stubborn, she has a guiding conscience, and wouldn't wish ill on anyone, no matter how much she may dislike them.
