Astrid's Armchair Genealogy Page

It might be surprising to find out that "armchair genealogy" might be the ideal way to begin putting together a family tree and - perhaps - even a family history.

On the other hand, perhaps you have spent years, perhaps even decades, working on genealogy. Perhaps now you are housebound and feel limited with what you can do. Well, there is no reason to worry. Instead, it might be the ideal time to rediscover the value of doing genealogy from the armchair.

One of the first genealogical "rules" is that the best way to begin your family tree is to start with yourself, with the most recent events, and with what is known. Whether you are new to genealogy or a seasoned expert, now might be a good time to complete Astrid's Armchair Genealogy: Checklist 1 - You as Your Own Ancestor.

The Internet can be especially fascinating (and sometimes addictive) for genealogy. There is so much available on the Internet, and it can be overwhelming. If you don't mind just having a bit of fun, without gaining long-term results, it is okay to just surf about and collect various tidbits of information. However, once you're ready for a more truthful family tree, then it becomes a time to focus and progress forward step by step. Review Checklist 1, and then visit Checklist 2 - Genealogy on TV, in Books, and on the Internet.
