A disappointment, then...

A Successful Weekend.
Sometimes, things have a way of balancing themselves out. I found out Friday, that yes, my suspicions were confirmed and Maddie was indeed, not pregnant. A real bummer, but I am trying to take the long view on this - that in the end, I will discover that it was all for the best.
It is interesting to be reminded that when dealing with the Big Mysteries (like birth and death), that our dreams are extremely tiny, and our ability to control outcomes are, at best, illusory. A lesson in humility, perhaps, or at least patience.
But meanwhile there are dog shows to attend, and Hogan worked wonderfully in the ring this weekend, and captured Best of Breed at Fort Garry K.C. three days in a row to finish his championship. He is starting to enjoy coming to dog shows, and I hope he continues to improve and develop his potential.
Peabody also had a great weekend, successfully completing her Rally Novice title. She was full of beans, and ready to work, and we had a perfect score the first day, winning the High in Class. The second day she was just as ready, but her handler was not so focused, and we achieved a respectable final leg. She has been a joy to work, and can now be considered a Versatility Dachshund, with three titles to her name.
She still howls with excitement when the car pulls up to a dog show - at 8 years old, how many dogs still love the ring that much?
(I debated who deserved to have their picture posted: Pea or Hogan? and then decided Finnegan - here keeping the home fires burning curled up on his heated massager pad - deserved the nod: for in the end, isn't this what we all come home to?)
