DRIVE THRU There is an idea in our culture that things have to be faster and faster for it to work. This is one of the ideas that lead to Drive-Thrus. They are incredibly convienient. You don't have to leave your car, you don't have to stop and you can continue on with your day. But the big problem with drive thru customers is that they don't know how to order. Here is quick lesson on how to effectively use this modern convienience. 2. Ordering in Drive Thru Step One: Please have your order ready. Know what you want to order, this will save you time. Step Two: Approach the speaker, and wait to be acknowledged. Odds are the server is doing some activity in the store and may take a minute to ask for your order. This should only take 5 to 10 seconds. When you are acknowledged, give your order accurately and completely. To review the ordering procedure, see previous page. Step 3: The server should repeat your order. Don't interrupt. This is their way to make sure that you will get what you order. This is the time to make any changes. When you are asked to, advance to the next window. You will be told the price of your order at this stage. Step 4: Have your money ready. If you must give exact change, please give it in such a way that it is easy to count quickly. Please all the dimes together, all the nickels together. And if at all possible, try not to use too many pennies. You don't want them, what makes you think that I do? If you are going to recieve change please take it quickly and put it away. This is what pockets are for. Remember that the people in line behind you are busy as well, if you take too much time at the window, you will cause them to become irrated, and they WILL take it out on the server. Step 5: Take your order. If you need a tray ask for one. If you don't need a tray and one is offered to you, please don't take it as an insult to your car. The server most likely hasn't been in your car, they don't know if you have a cup holder. Make sure that you have all of your order. If you are missing something, this is the time to let your server know. Step 6: Drive away. 2b. Your cell phone and Drive Thru Part of the convienience of our times is the fact that anyone can get in contact with anyone else. One of the ways to contact someone is a cell phone. The problem with cell phones though is that sometimes you are so focussed on the call that everything else is put on the back burner. So please if you are using your cell phone, stop talking for a moment and give your order. Things that we will not do: Wait for you to finish your conversation. There are people waiting behind you. Wait for you to find out if your spouse at home wants something"while you're here". There are people behind you. : |
