![]() I lost a best friend last night
No dog or person (especially my kids) listened as well
and responded as quickly.
He was brilliant, and beautiful, and bold (well he tried to look the part).
He was an ambassador of the breed to all who met him
and watched him run,
they could not help but be caught up in the beauty of the breed.
He was a buddy for broken hearts, many a teary face was dried in his mane.
He tolerated the rough affection of a toddler, and he followed my kids
through the bush, over the fences and under the wading pool ( you had to be there)
Always ready for a game of fetch or to give away their hiding places.
He was thorough and enthusiastic ( or should I say obsessed) ,
he emptied the entire garage
onto the back lawn, every last penny.
He was always stealing my boots,
and he taught me to never to leave my gloves lying around.
He was magical (how did he ever get that compas ball through
a two inch chain link fence).
No space was big enough, no fence tall enough, no wall inpenitrable.(darn those tervs)
Nothing unbreakable (including the handle of my cooking pots!)
I don't have to lock the garage door any more,
I don't have to worry about him thieving eggs from the cartons,
He won't be stealing my pizza again.
He won't be teasing the horses
or tormenting the good dogs who stay in their runs
or keep me up all night barking at the coyotes (or his food dish).
Damn I miss that dog!
