First Generation

John McGuire.  Born 22 Apr 1756 in Fermanagh Co., Ireland and died in Morgan County, KY on 10 Apr 1837 when he was 80.  John was on the 1810 census for Floyd Co., KY and the 1830 census for Morgan Co., KY.

 

In 1775 when John was 18, he married Nancy Holder, in Ireland or Virginia.  Born between 1750 - 1760 in Ireland or Virginia.  Nancy died in Morgan County, KY on 2 May 1837, she was 87.  She was on the 1830 census for Morgan Co., KY.

 

They had the following children:

Second Generation

James McGuire.  Born 1780 in Virginia and died in Morgan Co., KY on 2 Apr 1870 when  he was 90.  James was on the 1820 census for Floyd Co., KY and the 1830, 1840 and 1850 census for Morgan Co., KY.

 

In 1800 when James was 20, he first married Sarah Coffee, daughter of Ambrose Coffee (1755-1820) & Ailsey (1755-), in Montgomery County, KY.  Sarah was born 1783 in Fayette County, KY and died in Kentucky.  She was on the 1820 census for Floyd Co., KY and the 1830 and 1840 census for Morgan Co., KY.

 After 1825, when James was 45, he second married Nancy Barker.

 

Third Generation

John McGuire.  Born 1802 in Montgomery or Floyd County, KY and died in Carter County, KY in 1863, he was 61.  John was on the 1820 census for Floyd Co., KY and the 1850 census for Carter Co., KY.

 

On 8 Mar 1827, when John was 25, he married Mary Cook, in Morgan County, KY.  Mary was born in 1806 in Virginia and died in Kentucky.  She was not listed with family in the 1850 Carter Co., KY census.

Fourth Generation

James McGuire.  Born on 13 Apr 1832 in Floyd Co., KY, died in Iron Hill, Carter Co., KY on 8 Nov 1911 when he was 79, and buried on 9 Nov 1911 in the Haney Burial Ground, Carter, KY.  James was on the 1850, 1870, and 1880 census for Carter Co., KY.  James was a farmer and served in Co. D, 40th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.

Born in Morgan or Floyd Co., KY and lived there until he was 11 years old.  Then he moved to Carter Co., KY until his enlistment.

After his discharge, he lived about three miles from Walland or Willand,  KY? for about eight years then moved to Carter City, KY.

 

The 1870 Carter Co., Census says he can't read or write.

 

On 22 Sep 1852, when James was 20, he married Elizabeth Haney, daughter of John Haney (1793-) & Mahala Brumfield (-1843), in Lawrence County, KY.  Elizabeth was born on 15 Sep 1831 in East Fork, Lawrence Co., KY and died in Iron Hill, Carter Co., KY on 27 Jul 1920 when she was 88.  She was on the 1870 and 1880 census for Carter Co., KY.

James and Elizabeth were married at her fathers home in Lawrence Co., KY by Rev. Joel Cook  (Baptist Church)

 

Fifth Generation

Rachel Lee McGuire.  Born on 17 Jan 1873 in KY and died in Michigan in 1957 when she was 83.  She was on the 1880 and 1900 census for Carter Co., KY and the 1910 and 1920 census for Antrim Co., MI.  She is buried in Mancelona, MI.

 

Rachel’s birth date was taken from her father’s Civil War Pension Record which is located in the National Archives, Washington DC.

 

In 1889 when Rachel Lee was 15, she married Samuel Lambert, son of George W. Lambert (1827-) & Melissa, in Carter, KY.  Sam was born 15 Aug 1864 in (location disputed, may be Ohio) Carter, KY and died in Mancelona, MI on 25 Jul 1953 when he was 88.  Sam was on the 1870, 1880, and 1900 census for Carter Co., KY and the 1910 and 1920 census for Antrim Co., MI.

 

Sam may have worked on river boats in Ohio. (family story)
