Right to a safe workplace

State and federal laws provide regulations concerning safety in the workplace. By far the most well known of all such laws is the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSHA), which is enforced by the U.S. Department of Labor. Every state has similar laws. Most workers' compensation laws provide some measure of workplace safety regulation as well. Employees have the right to report unsafe working conditions to anyone. The federal law, OSHA, states that it is illegal to fire an employee who has filed an OSHA complaint. Most state laws provide the same kind of protection against retaliatory discharge.
