WORLD SERIES OF POKER | |||||||||||||||||||
1982 - Jack Straus
(Winner) This was perhaps the most remarkable victory in WSOP history. At one point Straus lost an all-in and was already leaving the table when he discovered that he had missed to put one of his $500 chips on the table. Since he hadn't said the magic words: "all-in", he was allowed to continue playing. More than merely amazingly, he actually went on to win the whole caboodle, the WSOP champion title, and $520,000. 1997 - Stu Ungar (Winner) After his third WSOP main event victory, "The Kid" made this comment: "If every hand from start to finish was filmed - every bet, every raise, even every fold - players would witness a classic performance. It was a no-limit Hold'em clinic". True or not, in the last hand against runner up John Strzemp, Ungar got lucky. A 2 on the river gave him the wheel straight, the title and $1,000,000 of prize money. |
