And You Thought Texans Could Horse Trade...

I made a decision to sell one of my SVOs due to the fact that I didn't think I really needed two show cars...and maybe I should try to sell one to someone who could appreciate a SVO showcar. So...I put the 86 2R (see Mustang Monthly 9-97) up for sale and would continue to restore the 85 Hertz car which, by the way, is still coming along slowly.

Anthony Davidson called me (former owner of my 86 2R). I told him the 86 was for sale and gave him the "if you want it back" price. He said he would think about it. To make this short, he called me back and we worked out a deal.

Here's the deal. Trade my 86 2R to Anthony for his 85 2R (all original and very nice w/50k miles)--plus some "boot."

Friday, I would be traveling to Indy for a Mustang show. I would stop in at Anthony's, we'd swap cars...deal done. Well...kinda.

Friday night, I got to Anthony's (40 miles east of Cinn, OH). We traded cars and wheels/tires (we both wanted to keep our present wheels/tires). I unloaded the 86 and reloaded the 85, cleaned up a little, and got to bed by 3:30 a.m. WHEW!

Saturday. I got up at 6 a.m. and drove to Indy (about 160 miles). If some of you remember, I mailed out flyers to this show. Only one other SVO showed up: a 86 7B (bi-wing delete) with only 23k miles. I took 1st..and the owner of the 7B wasn't happy that a 50k mile car beat him out. Oh, well, I didn't judge but I wasn't complaining.

Sunday. I decided to attend the Tri-State Mustang Club show in Cincy on my "round about way" home. Six SVOs showed up for this one...great show! I took 3rd. My "old" 86 2R took first <>. Anthony was rubbing it in...I didn't mind; I'm glad he owns the 86. I don't think anyone could appreciate that car as much as he can. Heck, he spent five years restoring it for the most part.

As I was packing up to come home after the show...now I'm still in the parking lot of the Mall where the show took place...Eric Davidson (Anthony's younger brother) asked me, "you wanna trade cars?" I took a 30 sec glance at his 85 9L (white) SVO that's an extremely nice car! Heck, anything that's in or around the Davidson's shop is in nice shape. I replied, "Ok...if you want to<196>I'll trade ya."

Again...late in the night, in the driveway, we traded cars...and wheels, and this time, seats. "Good lawd!" I think that's what everyone was saying. I'm not too sure, after this long weekend and a 2nd degree sunburn on my neck, my processing factors are growing narrow and blurred. <>

So...here it is Monday and I still own a SVO show car, but now it's an 85 and it's white. But within the course of this weekend, I've managed to own 3 SVOs within a 3 day period--the 86 2R, the 85 2R, and the 85 9L...and attended 2 shows and won a 1st and 3rd place!

By the way...this one (the 85 9L) is for sale also.
