2nd Annual Texas Chapter SVOOA Gathering!
March 14, 1998

Rainy weather did not dampen the spirits of 13 enthusiasts who brought out 8 SVOs on Saturday, March 14 for the Texas Chapter's Second Annual Gathering at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Park.

Regulars Bob, Linda, and Troy Storm of Cedar Park; Allen and Ella Roberts of Bryan; Steve and Tyler Pratt of Missouri City; and Brad Powell and his wife of Lewisville joined Chapter Director Jim Whelan and his son Scott from Leander in welcoming Sammy and Christina Crawford of Nacogdoches and Sam Hanks of College Station as new SVOOA members!

In a short business meeting, Brad Powell and Steve Pratt were appointed North Texas and Gulf States chapter coordinators, respectively. Richie Hodges of Lubbock is the West Texas coordinator and Jim Whelan is tentatively serving as the Central Texas coordinator. (Look for more on this later).

In addition to eating barbecue sandwiches, buying spare SVO parts, trading SVO stories, and discussing future chapter plans including expanding the "Gathering" to a semi-annual event, members voted on and awarded a Best of Show certificate to Steve Pratt and his silver 1984 SVO.

Sammy Crawford was presented the Lowest Mileage SVO for his red 1986 which has 35,000 original miles! And the Powells received the award for Member(s) Traveling the Farthest after motoring almost 250 miles and about 3.5 hours in the rain from Lewisville.

A special certicate for the Most Publicized 85.5 in the State was awarded to Troy Storm who brought out The Saga car for the event.

After a full day of mingling and of photographing the four black, two red, silver, and medium canyon red SVOs, the owners took time to visit the park's new visitor center dedicated to the signing site of the Texas Declaration of Independence before hitting the road home.
