Canyon Lake

Home Launch Sites

This is a Corps of Engineers lake with several campgrounds, most of which are not open during the cooler winter months. The marinas, however, are a good place to visit if you're visiting Texas to escape a northern winter. Cranes Mill Marina, on the south side of the lake and up the road from Startzville on Texas 2673, is a good place to tie up for the night. There is a ramp close to the marina and the facilities are very good, with a club room and showers. There are usually several empty slips. There is a sheriff's deputy on duty at night. You can also anchor in the small bay just beyond the marina. The boat launch is just a concrete slab, but there is some sandy shore next to it. The ramp is a very short distance from the marina.

Slips at marina Ramp near Potter's Creek

Two Potter15s, a Montgomery and a Compac are tied up near Potters Creek Park in March, just before a ferocious norther blew in. The lake level was high when this picture was taken. You'll notice that the access way is under water. The launch ramp is just a concrete slab. The dock shown at right is next to the ramp.

There is a very good restaurant at the Canyon Lake Marina, which has several visitor's slips. The picture below shows a new member of the group with his Potter 19 tied up at one of the guest slips.
