Lake Somerville

Home Launch Sites

This is a Corps of Engineers lake with Yegua, Overlook, Rocky Creek and Big Creek parks, and the up-stream end is a Texas state park, Nails Creek. This lake is not extensively developed. The small town of Somerville is on the lake and  the nearest town with a K-Mart is Brenham, NE of Houston on Highway 290. The lake is on Texas 36, north from Brenham. Unlike the Gulf Coast, where there is almost always a wind, the inland lakes may have barely a breeze. There are several good camp sights on the lake, Yegua Park probably being the easiest to get to. There is a small marina just off Texas 36, and there is another small marina in Big Creek Park. Nails Creek State Park, run by Texas Parks and Wildlife, has hiking trails and horseback rides to use if the wind isn't blowing. The water at the west end of the lake is shallow.
