HIGHTOWER

PRICE POINT/SIZE: DELUXE
DIFFICULTY: ADVANCED
FUNCTION: AUTOBOT CRANE
MOTTO: "Stay alert; danger is everywhere."

'Hightower is an excellent marksman, storming into battle with a cannon in one fist and a magnum in the other. He likes to make things hot for Megatron with fire weapons and flame throwers. He is very alert to dangerous situations and often guards the Construction team leader, as well as providing the solid support and advice of a seasoned warrior.'

VEHICLE MODE:
Hightower and Heavy Load share predominantly the same mould, and so look nearly exactly the same in their alternate modes. The difference being the lack of a tray or cabin and the addition of a crane and drivers compartment. Other than that there are some slight mould changes, the most noticeable of which being the legs, which now have panels that cover the arms whereas Heavy Load's arms where visible - personally I prefer Heavy Load's design in this respect because of the pin that holds the arms in place, also Heavy Load's legs clip together where as Hightower's do not, the result is that he has a tendency to come apart, especially after his joints become a little looser with use.

Like the rest of the build team Hightower is monochromatic, this time a very basic red, with few colour details, and those are mostly in black and grey. He's not nearly as unattractive as Heavy Load, though I would have preferred a more common or at least original design, such as the Constructicon Hook, rather than what looks like a box on wheels with an interchangeable roof ornament. Hightower is a fairly solid figure, though the plastic used to make him is obviously of inferior quality, and he rolls well on most flat, solid surfaces.

Just before his front wheels are two retractable supports that no doubt were meant to keep him from toppling when lifting things. it's unfortunate, then, that his hook is designed to ensure that he can lift absolutely nothing. It is moulded with a piece of plastic between the end hook and the top, so it's more of a lasso, the only way he's lifting anything is if it's attached to two ends of a piece of string. This is another thing that Hook (or even Grapple) has over this guy. and finally, while his cabin can rotate, it's severely limited. All in all this is more of a showpiece vehicle mode than anything functional, which is a shame considering a 20 year old toy betters it significantly in either department.

TRANSFORMATION (ROBOT MODE):
First, remove the cab section from the roof and set it aside for now, then fold the fists up and rotate the lower arms outward. Extend the legs and fold out the feet and heel supports. Turn the shoulders out and stand the figure. Take the cab and fold out the grey panel on the back, connect the plug into the hole between the figure's shoulders and connect the cab hole on the bottom of the cab into the hole on the back of the figure. Remove the crane and push the hook in toward the crane to fold out the gun barrel, extend the barrel the rest of the way and place in either hand, Open the cabin on Hightower's back and take out the magnum, place in the opposite hand.

ROBOT MODE:
Hightower's robot mode retains the red colour scheme of his vehicle mode, but his chest is far mode detailed, with a darker colour of red for the base and details in black and grey all over. His lower torso, upper legs and forearms are all grey, as is the panel between his shoulders that holds his head. His hands, knees, feet and visor are all dark grey/black.

Hightower has joints at his feet, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists and neck. He has enormous feet and with his light frame and mostly stiff leg joints he can stand fairly well in almost any pose you can conjure up for him. I haven't had any experience with his joints loosening, which is a good sign.

There really isn't much to be said for Hightower; he's a fairly plain figure with an average difficulty transformation and a really bland colour scheme. Between he and Heavy Load the only saving grace of the figures is that between them they form half of Landfill. However Hightower is a fun figure - better than Heavy Load in my opinion - and well worth owning if you plan to get the rest of the build team, if you don't then he is entertaining for a while, but beyond that will probably end up collecting dust.
