Jay Walker was part of a small group of training Jedi that were forever searching for someone to train them. (These people usually ended up dying or being dark Jedi trying to turn them) Jay started as the ship's mechanic but quickly became the all-round engineer and repair guy, building and modifying lightsabers, upgrading the ship and such and therefore was never without a compliment of small tools and datapads.

As far as personality, he was mostly the restraining force in the team, trying to keep from doing anything irrational. He was a pretty friendly guy and tended to make friends easily and would never abandon them. His primary weapon was his lightsaber, which was highly-modified (not a smooth sleek design).

Lastly, he lost his right hand in a vicious fight and replaced it with a slightly larger metallic one. It is mostly metal and has two or three small tools attached to it (on top of the hand, behind the knuckles).
