Kiem’s family history on Corellia spans back generations. The Di-Vad family has always worked hard for a family owned business. Di-Vad Space Engineering (DSE) has been a private company on Corellia for decades.

The company specialized in repairing, maintaining, and modifying both star fighters and freighters. Highly successful for years, DSE has working on thousands of different ships that operated throughout the galaxy. At times, even rivaling Nar Shaddas own Shug Ninx for business. Rumor has it that Kiem’s father, Arn, even worked with Ninx for a time, but had some kind of falling out.

As Kiem grew older, Arn taught him everything he knew about starships. At an early age, Kiem was able to act as a mechanic in the company. Very helpful and more then adequate, soon thereafter Kiem began flying.

That’s just what the records say about the Di-Vad family, and most of it is true. However, a large part of the family’s ‘true’ history remains unwritten. Back before the rise of the Empire, Kiem’s grandfather was a great Jedi Master who served in the Clone Wars. Kyros Di-Vad was one of the more prominent Corellian Jedi in his time. Wearing brown robes and sporting a blue bladed lightsaber, he died heroically a year or so after the Battle of Geonosis.

During the Great Jedi Purge that took place in the rise of the Empire, family friends in high places were able to falsify records, clearing the name of any former Jedi connections. Kyros’s son, Arn, however was old enough at the time of his death to take Kyros’s personal effects, including his robes and lightsaber, and keep them hidden. Hopefully, when the Jedi would return, there would be a Di-Vad to retake his place in the order.

Once Luke Skywalker reestablished the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV, Arn eventually revealed Kiem’s true family history, and that inside himself he possessed the skills to become a Jedi Knight. Kiem journeyed to the Academy in hopes of continuing the Di-Vad legacy, and was trained in the ways of the Jedi by Master Skywalker himself. In the end, Kiem left the Academy as a full fledged Jedi Knight.
