[Funfic] A Tale of Two Titties.

Crime in our society is a forgone conclusion, there is always
going to be crime in some form; in the presence of honey there
will surely be ants. The severity and volume of crimes committed
in America, however, is not a forgone conclusion. Other cultures
that are on par with our technological and political structures
do not, in many cases, suffer the same levels of crime that we do
in the United States. Crime in America is the result our
competitive, capitalistic economy coupled with a very self-centered
mentality that has been exacerbated by the unprecedented success
of our economy.
Our society, since the industrial revolution, has become the
greatest economic power in the world and we enjoy freedoms that
other cultures do not. Political freedoms, social freedoms and
economic freedoms. The Conflict theorists believe that there is a
limited number of resources available and that conflict arises
between the classes for those resources. Karl Marx believed the
same thing. He believed that the proletariat would rise up
against the bourgeoisie and take over the system creating a
Communist government. Thankfully, for the most part, Marx was
wrong ...or at least, to an extent. While some countries did fall
and give. way to Communism, America has flourished and proved
that Capitalism is a superior system. Marxist theory, however,
has not been completely discounted. For example, the working
class as it rises against the wealthy, as described in THE
COMMUNIST MANIFESTO. A class just as old but much larger than in
our fathers' generation is rising up indiscriminately against the
other classes, much as the proletariat was theorized to rise
against the bourgeoisie.
This criminal class, according to the functionalists, is the
result of a break down of the social bonds that keep our society
together. Emile Durkheim stated that one problem in industrial
societies is the lack of a bond between the people that is
required for survival in a pre-industrialized society. The
industrialized world breeds separation: According to Existential
tenets, man undergoes an alienation from himself, nature, other
men and 'god.' In a society were the other man is not a brother,
but a competitor, the sense of belonging is destroyed and
replaced with a desire of personal prosperity. We are taught to
desire this prosperity but we are not always instructed as how to
become successful. Some of us are incapable of reaching
prosperity in an acceptable manner, and they resort to crime.
Robert Merton's Anomie Theory states just that. He says that
"...people in the United States are not always provided with
culturally approved means necessary to attain these goals."
This theory seems to hold true, if someone is living in a ghetto
with no job opportunities and has been forced to abandon their
education, it is unlikely that they will be successful in any
occupation in which they might place themselves. Crime becomes
the only solution ...or does it? Crime is, by far, the easiest
solution but America has so many social programs that it is
almost impossible not to receive some sort of aid ...all that is
required is a little searching for it. However, when in the face
of receiving a small amount of government money compared to
receiving thousands of dollars for fencing a car, many people in
this situation would pick the illegal route. In this disattached,
industrial society that we live, people are created equal ...when
it comes to the census In reality, people are birthed into
classes only slightly-less harsh than India's caste system.
Unlike the caste system, it is possible to break free from these
social classes but it is far from easy. In these classes,
according to the lnteractionists, people learn their deviant
behavior from what they are taught and what they observe from
others. Most people in these classes are too lazy to learn how to
break free from the binds of poverty would rather take the easy
way out and become criminals.
What about the super criminals, those rare few beings of
exceptional power and evil intent? Where do they come from?
Usually, it's as simple as an accident involving chemicals. Other
times it's a matter of gamma radiation. Sometimes there IS no
explanation. Robert Banner's theory states that "Super
criminals often lack a strong purpose in life, they may need a
social net to fall back on and in its absence, resort to crime.
Their minds are often a place of pain, suffering and total
anguish. It's often a sick, twisted mirror of our world, with
Hellish fire, burning air and no bathrooms. Let's not even get
started on the flying monkeys."
In the end it seems that education is the only feasible solution
to our problems, We have enough social programs to accommodate
the poor, yet many are too stupid to realize that these programs
exist. People need to know that they CAN succeed in America, all
it requires is work.
