Brooding and introspective, Blitzwing is almost a reluctant Decepticon. Is fiercely patriotic and has undying loyalty to the Decepticon "race" and consequently sides with the Decepticons, even against his own best judgment. Has serious questions about the Decepticon ideology, about the viability of conquest as a way of life, not to mention the value, but suppresses these concerns out of devotion to the idea and ideal of being a "true Decepticon." Former viciousness was tempered after 2005 by the attempted Quintesson conquest and his subsequent exile; has a burning hatred and suspicion of Quintessons as a result. Is held in contempt by some of his allies for his past history.
Blitzwing joined the Decepticon leader Megatron on Earth in 1985. He quickly gained a reputation as a efficient warrior, but a snarling one of brute force limited in intelligence and skill.
Initially elated to learn of Megatron's survival on Earth four million years after the Decepticon flagship Nemesis left Cybertron and eager to join in his new crusade, Blitzwing became increasingly introspective over what he came to feel was the futility and pointlessness of an existence defined solely by conquest during his tenure on Earth. His reputation as merely a strong and simple fighter was shattered in 2005, when Blitzwing turned on the Decepticon leader Galvatron to stop a futile battle between the Autobots and Decepticons engineered by the Quintessons to destroy all Transformers. Galvatron angrily banished Blitzwing for this betrayal, warning him that he would never again be welcome in the ranks of the Decepticons. Blitzwing was offered a place with the Autobots, but he refused, preferring to remain in exile over joining his long-time enemies.
In the "Final Offensive" of 2007, Blitzwing, still loyal to the Decepticon people if not its crusade of conquest, made the difficult choice to side with Galvatron at a crucial moment against the Autobots. He was allowed to return to the Decepticon ranks as a result of his actions in this battle. He continues to side with the Decepticons today, although not without misgivings about their cause and their future.
Blitzwing can transform into a fighter plane equipped with concussion missiles and a tank capable of firing long-range cluster bombs. In robot mode, he is equipped with a gyro-blaster rifle.
