Monica Helms

President

Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA)

Dear Monica,

On behalf of the full board of directors of Gender Education & Advocacy (GEA), I am proud to endorse the TAVA Transgender Veterans March to the Wall in Washington, DC, on Saturday, May 1, 2004.  We fully support the efforts of TAVA to unite our veterans and heal the rift that may exist between transpeople and their time of military service.

We will be pleased to share information about the project via our web site, www.gender.org, and through any broadcast announcements that we publish (should we do so) between now and the event.  We will also note our endorsement in our annual report, and mention it in any public educational forum in which we participate.

You are welcome to list Gender Education & Advocacy, Inc. as an endorser in any promotional materials.

We understand the deep feelings that arise from military service, from the loss of comrades in arms, and from the loss of identity or status that occurs for many people who are transgendered.  Carrying the emotions of all these life events can be a heavy burden, especially when it is carried alone.  TAVA’s March to the Vietnam Memorial will give many honorable veterans a welcome catharsis, allowing them to connect, rejoice, grieve, find resolution, and regain hope and perspective for the ongoing battle that our transgendered existence can sometimes be.  We are confident this will be a deeply meaningful occasion for all involved.

Best wishes for a successful event on May 1st.

Sincerely,

Jamison Green, Board Chairman
